Sounds like everone is starting to hit the water. I'm starting to get alittle nervous. Got this boat last fall. Never had it in the water yet. I had the gimble ring and bearing replaced this winter. While the lower unit was off I cleaned and painted it. I removed the whale tale or what ever. I'm thinking about leaving it off. The boat does have trim tabs. Are there any 270DA's out there using these things? Are there any 270's having problems getting on plane without them. Sounds like if you have trim tabs. You don't need it. Thanks for all the help.

What engine do you have - that will make a difference.
Even if you are under-powered, I would still lose it though.

You've driven the boat with it on now try it with it off. I had one on an old boat of mine once didn't like the looks of the thing & took it off. Didn't like the way it planed after I took it off so I put it back on.
Also watch your shins when you walk around those things.....they hurt!

I posted this a few days ago in another thread:

No need for it on heavier boats. The foil will provide "x" amount of force to lift the stern. That "x" amount is a constant - meaning it will always provide the same amount of lift given the same amount of flow over it. Think of it this way: Let's say the foil provides 50lbs of lift (I have no idea what it really does, but it'll work for this example). Whether that foil is on a 2,000lb boat or a 4,000lb boat, it's still only going to provide 50lbs. The heavier the boat is, the less effect it will have. Will it help? Well, in theory it can't hurt. But I'd say save your money to fill that big tank!
