My OEM original Ray215 seem to be having transmission issues. I have little to no range. I can receive transmissions ok but can't seem to transmit. I have performed some tests with other boats and using a handheld and it appears to be related to transmission only. At first I thought it might be the mic but I can transmit with clarity to my own handheld or to another boat close by. I am trying to decide if I should replace the antenna (do they go bad??) or just replace the radio. I do not believe it is the mic and I have heard the mics are impossible to find anyways.

You test the radio`s output with a swr meter or watt meter and load.If your not near the 25 watt range the radio is not working to transmit.
If you do see 25 watts output the ant is bad or severely mis-matched or the coax went bad.

I would take a close look at the VHF PL-259 connector going to the back of the VHF unit. Always a place for corrosion.

Planning for the worst. What is the exact size replacement for the unit on a 280 Sundancer or what will fit where a Ray215 fit? Thinking I may do the radio and antenna as a group.

If if you want to sell the 215 let me know. I can use some parts.
