Looks like I need a new outdrive. I still haven’t made the decision whether I’m going to pull the trigger on an aftermarket SEI bravo 3, or just send it and buy the new OEM Mercruiser SeaCore unit.

Both have a one year warranty and if I’m gonna grenade anything due to a defect, I’ll know before the end of that year. That will be at least 100 run hours.

My main question is starting with factory fresh paint, which growth control treatment would work better. Something like a prop speed applied to the drive or lightly sanding OEM paint and going over the whole drive and painting with Trilux.

Have any of you used the propspeed or propglide outdrive coatings? I know the Trix works pretty well in these waters but I’m kind of tired of dealing with it if there’s something better

I use Prop Speed on my v-shaft configuration. I would say 90% of people on my marina use it as it’s very popular in these parts.

I have it reapplied every 18 months - 2 years.

Is the boat in the water full-time? I’m in SWFL so ideally it would need to be good for a year with only a few short hauls and (hopefully) only 1 pull for a few weeks for more involved maintenance.

Permanently in salt water ranging in temp between 60F and 70F.

Florida temps will be higher encouraging more growth I suspect.
