Can someone tell me how to change the inner cartridge in this fuel filter? I've read that the housing is discontinued and hard to find. Before I go making a mess out of it and turning a $20 project into a $200 one I thought I would ask here first.
My thought is that I drain the filter with the plug. Then I'm assuming the housing spins off with a filter wrench. Is it that simple?
Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly there is a hex on top that you unscrew to remove the canister. Hope this helps!

I think you are correct. I will try that first. Not a fan of fuel on the bilge. Thanks for the help

Hello Folks - Just found a pair of these in the bilge on my newly acquired 1990 350 Express Cruiser with twin 454's with straight shaft stern drives. I was in the process of changing out my engine mounted fuel water separators and upon further inspection, found these mounted separately, on the left and right, towards the stern. What is their purpose / function? Are they also fuel water separators or more of a contaminant filter - why the redundancy - perhaps because they perform separate functions? Also, I have been led to believe within the housing is the filter itself which can be changed by spinning the lower nut (which is actually a bolt going straight through) which allows the housing to be dropped and the filter easily replaced) are my assumptions correct - lots of questions eh :)?

Thanks for the great info! So do uou think / know - is this filter more for particles capture as opposed to fuel / water separating?
Yup had those on my 88 amberjack , just straight up fuel filters off the gas tanks got my filters from Colvin auto parts merrick ny

Had those on my 87 300 Sundancer. I got the WIX replacements on Amazon. I think the WIX number is 33110, but check a cross reference chart to be sure.
Changing it is very easy. As mentioned above, the hex is on the top of the housing. There are two O rings that come with the filter. Be sure to get the old ones out and replace them.

Went to change today - spun off the nut bottom dead center - thought it might be a bolt that ran straight though but turned out to just be a short bolt - then thought the housing would drop straight down but won't budge and don't want to crank on it downwards or try to spin it off. What did you mean by:

"As mentioned above, the hex is on the top of the housing."

Bottom line - how do I remove the housing to change out the internal filter?

Thanks - Craig

I don't have any experience with your filter but this picture that I posted earlier shows a hex bolt on the top.

And this one shows a picture of how it is assembled.

Note: click on the pic so you can read it.
The filter head cap screw ("hex bolt") must be removed first in order to remove the filter body and cartridge,

What TechMitch said!
Don’t forget to fish out both of the old O rings and replace them with the new ones that should have come with the filter

Ha, thought the same thing after I clicked on the pic for the 3rd time, but was more interested in a pic of the old filter cartridges since I'm thinking they haven't been replaced in a while.

I know this is an old thread so Hopefully you get this notification. Do you have links or references to the crossreference charts your talking about? I'm having a fuel delivery problem with my 310 sundancer and I have the old Fram Filter.
