Do any of you guys regularly use a fuel additive(including you oil burners)?
If so, what and why?
Every 4 tanks or so I throw in a bottle of the Chevron Techron stuff, because I am hoping it is "cleaning" as advertised.

The only thing I use is "Sea-Foam". Have used it for years in my diesel (the one for a diesel) and now use the gas recommended one for every 2-3rd fill up.

Dang What's Sea-Foam learn something new every minute.

The only thing I've been puting in mine is Stabil as I never know how long the fuel may sit.

For fuel stabilizer, what's the guideline for when to use it? If fuel will sit longer than x, use it. What is x? 4 weeks?

Is it a better question to ask how long will you sit before refueling? In other words, I may use the boat once a week, but not refuel for 2 months (hypothetical case). So the question is not how long it sits, but how long before you add new fuel to the tank?

I always use 93 octain to help with "run on" or "pre ignition". I also trow in carb cleaner every 5th fill up or so, and I use stabil with ever fill up.

I didn't believe in any of this additive stuff either. Sounded too good to be true. but... here's the related post with my experience:

This looked like it was more Diesel related so it wouldn't apply to me.

So now is everyone saying Stabil is bad? is SeaFoam bad?

I put Stabil in because I don't know when the next time I will go out will be. From when I first got the boat at the end of october it sat till last month (mostly due to work, weather, visitors, etc) so I don't want the gas that sits in it to go bad on be and cause problems.

Sorry for the length of this, but here is my experience with additives.
Back in the '70s I bought a new Volvo which led me to a mechanic who specialized in foreign cars. He insisted that I use one can of Berryman's B-12 Chemtool in every 8-10 tanks. He also insisted on something startling; that every 5th oil change I add one can to the crankcase, run the oil to temp, then proceed with the oil change as normal. Many years and 350,000 miles later I had to pull the head. The mechanic who was helping me thought that I had put a new engine in the car. Everything was as clean and tight and new looking as could possibly be.
Needless to say, I still use it in every vehicle I own.

Diesel Fuel Additives

Big tanks, lots of lazy warm days and the bugs can really get growing. I use Bio-Bor at maint level on my Fills.

Now I'm planning to run several tanks through later this mjonth and I won't use any additives until I return to Home port and refill.

Biologicals are a necessary evil and aren't needed when the fuel is being turned over frequently (weekly).
