Has anyone else had issues with water entering their fuel vent and clogging the line?

I have a new 2019 SDX 270 and suddenly I wasn't able to pump gas into the tank. I'd recently navigated some rough seas and seems like I took on some water in my fuel vent line that filled up the carbon canister with water, preventing the air from escaping the tank. I managed to get the flooded canister out (it's hard as hell to access), it's FUBAR and I'm working on replacing it. There's an Attwood 1674 fuel vent installed with a P-trap built in that's supposed to keep water out, but clearly it failed here. I'm wondering if other people are having good luck with the stock fuel vent or if anyone else has replaced theirs with something different? It's so difficult to get back into that area so I'd really love to chalk this up to a fluke and keep the existing vent. Has anyone been through this already / have any words of wisdom?
