George Floyd

So frustrating that this guy has his face on tee shirts and being hailed as a hero. He was not a hero. He was a criminal plain and simple....not someone to be honored. But once again, some in our society have chosen to place this thug above all else.

And let me say again, this guy should not have died at the hands of the police but he CHOSE to commit the crime and place himself into the position he did. Nothing in this tragedy is about heroes or martyrs....

I saw on the news that in Minneapolis there is an effort to rename a road after GF. Really? WTF?

Now, to get off topic just a bit, I must say thst I was very embarassed by what Trump did when he had his secret service agents or White House police gas those peaceful protestors in Lafayette Park. This was all done so he could get his photo op of him walking peacefully through the park and then over to the church for more photos.

What an idiotic thing to do that would almost guarantee that a part of his supporters would recognize it for what it was and lose respect for him.

The guy is an egotistic idiot. I'm embarassed for him.

Fake news. Where do people get their information?

Those were smoke bombs from rioters not police tear gas. You really believe police would shoot tear gas near where a President will be walking?

Here's an article that seems to cover all sides of the issue: https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/g...ts-trump-church-photo-curfew-park/3127684001/.

There is testimony from both sides as to whether the protesters were violent or not prior to the dispersal.

There seems to be a semantic argument at play as to whether pepper spray (which was used according to government sources) and other riot control agents are forms of "tear gas" or if CS gas (which was not used) is the only true "tear gas". The President's route did not include the protest area according to the diagram of his walk.

So Drew Brees posted his opinion about the flag and was chastised by teammates and other NFL players.

Let me say I do not agree with how Mr. Floyd was treated, criminal or not, but where is logic? When you commit a crime you are putting your destiny in the hands of others and you have very little control of what happens after that. Nobody should die while in custody but if you don't want to hand your fate over to others then don't break the law. Based on my experience and time in law enforcement I'd venture to say 98-99% of all law enforcement are good guys/gals and are there for the right reasons.

A few years ago an officer in my step-sons department was called to a house for something. Can't remember what it was. He ends up on top of the guy (guy was face down on kitchen floor) and slamming the guys head/face into the floor repeatedly and it was all recorded. I don't remember if the suspect was black or white because it didn't matter. Officer was fired as soon as the investigation was complete. No riots, no protests. A bad cop off the force. Suspect recovered and sued the city. Step-son had told me this cop was a hot head and they figured it was a matter of time before it happened.
I have had little to do with police other than speeding tickets and stopped for dirty tail lights. US police seem to be nice but are nervous and I do not blame them as there seems to be a greater potential for harm to them. Is there a solution? In my world one learned by training and mentorship. In the police world it seems young officers are sent out too soon. On a job site when some one inadvertently scratch his new car (He was a district superintendent) he responded with "I do not own a bolt in it" He did not get mad put I knew him and later was not happy but never showed it to his men. Point is he was mentored and trained how to react in a situation. In times of real emergency he was just a calm. Senior officers need mentor new officers. It all cost money and people do not like taxes to go up.

When I found out two of the men in the 4-person squad that were present when Floyd was killed were brand new on the job (one had worked 3 days, the other 4 days) it made me feel sorry for them.

I've been a rookie cop. You're afraid to speak up, especially against a senior office with his knee on someone's neck. Those two are going to get railroaded along with the other two cops.

Is that fair? I'm not sure. We all have a duty as humans to try to prevent what happened to Floyd. OTOH I can sympathize with them for being thrown into a situation where they had no knowledge of what to do, how to act, how to react, etc.

I think they're about to find out just how unfage and the judge will recognize the situation they were in and bir the world can be. My hope is they get a trial in front of a jude lenient.

Imagine how a cop feels now when he’s called to a scene where black males are involved!

Youre damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t.

One of my sons is a bail bondsman. He carries, and he hunts. His attitude is perfect. He’s willing to arrest and/or shoot anybody that’s needs it.

They apparently spoke up as well. Might be a difficult conviction.

I live in the middle of bum fuck Egypt (thank god) the worst criminals we see is an occasional drunk driver. But I can’t even begin to imagine the kind of trash the police in bigger cities have to deal with on a constant basis. White trash black trash and everything in between.

Senior officers do mentor new officers.

As these protests continue and now spread around the world it is just amazing to me that non of the black conservatives have been willing to stand up and explain to their peeps the error of their thinking.
If black lives matter so much why then do the Fathers of the young black men not raise them to respect the law and do their homework and work hard to achieve the American Dream that is available to them?
Instead so many of these men abandon the children and the mothers and move on to party and make more babies that perpetuate these issues. The black community needs to improve itself by demanding better behavior of their own. If the argument is that the afore mentioned irresponsible males are a small percentage of the black community then it should not be that big of a problem for them to deal with. I learned at a very early age to do nothing to bring shame to my family or the community. It was not a specific lesson taught me by my Dad, I just absorbed the concept by emulating the adults in my life.
The accomplished Blacks and the community leaders need to reach out and shame the shit out of these members of their community that are the root of the problems and the violence and police brutality wont have an opportunity to happen in the first place. I am quite sure that the vast majority of the blacks that have been killed by police have been raised in a fatherless family. They often leave behind multiple children by multiple women to boot. All humans, no matter the color of their skin learn behavior, it is way past time for every black man to lead by example and take responsibility for the future of their offspring.

Well said

I wont be shocked if all 4 are aquitted. Lock your doors folks. Meth and fentanyl in his system (allegedly) plus covid plus heart disease. This wont end well

No....Chauvin gets convicted of at least murder in the 3rd and should be 2nd. The rookies may not do jail time but their days in law enforcement are most likely over.

I happened to catch some of Al Sharpton's screed during the GF memorial where he complained that the black man has the white man's knee on his neck and that is why blacks are not in positions of authority in the country. Id like to see him tell that to the current commander of the California Highway Patrol- a Black Man, How about our current Surgeon General-a Black Man how about Justice Clarence Thomas? a Black Man. Oh and did I forget, the past PODUS, wasn't he a Black man? And then there is Herb Cain, a successful business man and past candidate for president I don't recall him running on a platform of inequality of the black man. The list may be short relative to the list of White CEOs and Politicians and Political appointees but the point is when will these successful and prominent Black men reach out in a meaningful way and call out Sharpton and Jackson etal for fomenting this vitriol instead of offering a positive and encouraging path forward for their flock?

What a shitty time right now. I’ve heard protesters say that rioting is the only way to get the message across. What message? That there is profit to be made in rioting, burning and looting because it’s certainly not going to solve racism.

I’m 70 years old and grew up in Seattle. I remember well the race riots there in 1968 and ‘69. And yet we still have racism. I watched, on live tv, the riots in LA related to Rodney King. I watched, again on live tv, rioting black men pull white Reginald Denny from his truck and beat him senseless and hit him in the head with a brick that caused permanent brain damage. And yet we still have racism. I watched the more recent incidents of alleged of racism by the police which also caused rioting and demonstrations. And yet we still have racism.

So it seems pretty clear that rioting And looting will not solve racism in the US, and the world. But there’s money to be made. By the professional rioters (ANTIFA, Black Lives Matter), by the looters, and by the media....because good news doesn’t sell.

I agree with the earlier comment regarding Police Reform. What reform are they looking for. I have close family in law enforcement in California and none of them condone what happened to GF. But they all also agreed that he made the choice to break the law and he resisted. In some cities on the West Coast (Seattle, San Francisco) the cops are being told to not arrest for misdemeanors. (In other cities the judges just dismiss misdemeanor crimes and put the perps right back on the street. The result? Cops quit enforcing misdemeanor crime) There was video a few months ago of hooded and masked individuals going through a San Francisco CVS store and shoving stuff off the shelves into black trash bags with no fear because shoplifting is a misdemeanor.

I know some cops are starting to second guess themselves in situations where they have to think about pulling a weapon or use force to protect themselves for fear of public opinion. This is going to result in the death of cops. But you know that 99.9% of the demonstrators will be dialing 911 when their lives and property have been attacked.

Sadly, people, of all color, have been dying in police custody for many, many years. Does that make it right? Of course not. What makes it different now is that everyone has a camera and access to instant global media.

I need a beer and to hug my dog. And we can’t even lose ourselves in televised sports or car racing on tv. Guess I’ll go out and wax the boat....again.
