Has anyone replaced there raw water pump impellers with these Globe composit impellers? They claim they will "run dry" for 15 minutes... This would seem to add to there reliability, considering the fact that it is such a PIA to replace these on our "well deigned" engines that it is worth the extra cost (+30%).

This would be great if they work. My only concern is do they cause any damage to the pump housing over time being composite?

I wonder is these would work on the Koehler Genny's?

I have heard that they do not work as advertised. Something about not flexing enough to pump water at low RPMs.

I also remember reading (maybe on here) that they do not pump enough at low rpm. Do a search on here and THT, or just google. One of the two sites had some comments about that.

It's funny I have checked the other sites and I can't find anything really good or bad, it seems to be something that everyone would love if they perform as advertised. I am not saying that it is necessary for them to run dry, but just to be capable of that would lead you to believe they are well made...

I am running them right now. I have not tested the run dry option (nor do I plan to). Time will tell, I have about 25 hours on them.

Do a google search on globe impeller problems. Lots of pages. Most all about priming issues on start up, and the center hub spinning without the impeller. If you believe half of what you read, still plenty of bad feedback. I have never had an oem impeller fail and I generally run them 3 years or so, 150-200 hours. Read up and make your own decision.

I installed the Globe impellers this weekend, for my engine and all the Mercruiser raw water pumps with the plastic housing it is part #2001 from Globe. seems to pump the same amount of volume as the old pumps (when they were new).... I will see how long they last, I got 3+ years on the old ones (250+ hrs).

Just replaced both Raw Water pumps with OEM Merc. After the 1989 orginal port engine pump failed upon dewinterizing, thats not bad considering 500 hours and many years of service! Note that I just purchased this boat last October. The Starboard was not bad but had tears in the vains so they would be heading "South" soon. I have found from experience that the OEM can last at least 4 years depending on silt, sand in the water. Time will tell on these new pumps. The paint was intact on the old multi piece pumps so they were orginal stuff, found out how to pull out the old pumps, the first one took 1 day but the second was under 3 hours, having figured out the procedure to remove and replace. I have a 89 340 bridge, at least I have 4 inches of extra room, just not in the right places:smt013
