And your point is? Those 700 come here to better understand what may need to be done. And also vent a little.

You only THINK they are knowledgeable. If you ask a question on any forum you will most certainly get more than one opinion. Which one is right? The guy with the most posts? The answer that most agree with?

Harry once said: "are ya feelin lucky?"

And on another note, maybe the 700 know more than anyone but just chose to pay someone because they have the money but not the time...

I think Harry also said, "a man needs to know his limitations." I've done many upgrades and modifications to my boat(s) over the years. Just like many of you on this forum, I know what I'm capable of and am willing to share advice when I can. I know how to winterize my block but still pay the yard to have it done. Could I do it....sure. However, I miss a drain point and I pay for a new block. They miss a drain, and they pay for a block. I see it as good insurance for which I am willing to pay a mechanic. And hanging upside down in the bilge to swap an oil filter is just not my thing anymore.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about a TV show.

Maybe yes, maybe no. NOW I do my own winterization because I don't trust anyone. One year I was busy traveling for work so I had the dealer do it.

Come Spring, it was a disaster and the boat sank. The dealer would not honor any kind of guarantee because I didn't bring it back in Spring to have them "Summerize" it.

I said summerize was merely them checking if they did it right in the first place. They didn't agree.

Haven't done bizness there in many years, and my bad reviews must have cost them more in lost business then they would have spent on me.

Rant over.

Jim, I was trying to agree with you. There are lots of reasons people pay a mechanic to do the work. That doesn't make them less knowledgeable. I think that was your point.
