Does anyone know what the gray composite material is that SR uses in cockpit cushions? I'm having my cockpit seat redone and we found that both pieces of this board are cracked.

Does anyone know the brand name or where it can be purchased? It's not standard Starboard.

I would consider using 1/2" MDO plywood. Seal the end grain with West System epoxy and paint with gloss Rustoleum or Intelux Brightside. Very strong and will not crack.

I'm considering using marine ply as you suggested but don't want to go backwards since they moved away from wood for a reason. The other thing holding me back is that the seat bottoms are hinged for storage and the ply would be considerably heavier than the composite.

could be seabord or something similar, the only differences ive found is they all make different densities and have thier own unique to manufacturer finishes.

Aaron,

It is King StarBoard XL.......old trades name was StarBoard Lite or StarLite so, depending upon what vendor you use, you might find it under one of those names:

Do not use plywood on the cockpit seating of an open cockpit boat or you will have a do-over on your hands because the foam in the seating holds water and will rot a wooden seat back. Also, if the OEM seat bottoms cracked, strengthening the starboard back is easy with a couple of flat pieces of scrap StarBoard screwed to the seat bottom in the long dimension of the bottom.

Check West marine. I have purchased a white composite board from them and painted it gray that I used on my boat for other reasons. It comes in various sizes and thickness.

Rather than search for a brand or trade name, just search .5" HDPE. I use a lot of it and get it local from a plastics supply and fab shop. They stock it in 4 x 8 sheets as well as boards, and round stock of various dimensions. Accepts staples and spray adhesive very well.

Oh i have a local vendor for the hdpe, i made a lot of stuff on my old 300 with it. Soroc plastic in flint michigan ask for Ken in inside sales. Now that i think of it i need to go see him ,one of my gunnel step pads has a crack around a screw.
