Gustav: Lessons Learned?

Well. . .it looks like that Gustav was no Katrina. The storm wasn't as big. The Government was FAR more proactive in dealing with potential problems.

These are all good things.

Looking at some web blogs, news and photos tonight, I am struck by a few things;

1) There are still lessons to be learned, even when you have success. As is clear in the two photos of the Industrial Canal -> An extra few feet on the Levee walls would be really good to have.

2) Dragging anchor can really suck.

The Army Core was at first not concerend and then were concered about the canal levey walls which makes me wonder why they have not done more to fix them? That was just a Cat 2 hurricane and not a direct hit based on what they were saying if it was a cat 3 or stalled or was more of a direct hit we would be looking at a breach again.

Amazes me people would live there knowing that they could lose everything AGAIN.
