We have a condo in Sun City West, AZ, a Del Webb community for people over 50. We go down there a few times a year in the winter months and have a small (13') Boston Whaler to tow to the nearby lakes when we want. It's nice to have a place to get away to when the weather turns nasty up here.
Mama wants to sell the condo and buy a "nicer" condo. That equates to putting another $150K with the proceeds we'd get from the sale of our condo, and I'm just not willing to take that out of my investments.
Last year we remodeled the kitchen, this year we're putting in a new bathroom with a walk-in shower. That's the last of the remodeling we're going to do except for painting and small stuff. I think that will bring the condo up to her "standards" and she'll stop pushing to get a different one.
The problem is she watches HGTV with all those shows about flipping homes and remodeling them. I know that's her driving force behind wanting "bigger and better".
