hi folks
i will be first mate on a 38 foot Cruiser coming from SC to NY..Long Island. Can someone recommend a app/software to download to confirm my route? Navionics wants $54 per year any other suggestions?

Navionics is the best for a tablet in my opinion

Agreed on Navionics, and really $54 as an extra layer of safety on that trip seems a bit trivial.

My girl, if you are traveling the ICW in NC give me a shout and I can help you with a couple known shallow spots.

Take a look at iNavX. I just noticed it's on sale for $19.99. Once you have it, you can choose what charts to use. You can pay for Navionics or others if you want, but it will also access the free NOAA chart library.

I did Washington DC to Wilmington NC last Nov. I used Navionics. But www.waterwayguide.com was the best tool I had. I used my tablet to plan every leg of the trip the day before. Pay close attention to all Nav Alerts. This webpage is pretty accurate with all the current information.

+1 on Navionics... it's going to cost you more like $100 by the time you buy the real charts... but I agree for that trip it shouldn't change much

The new 2017 waterway guides in paper form are available. I bought my version and it's awesome.

One quick thing...I purchased the Navionics app. Agreed. It's awesome BUT I am plotting a trip up intracoastal and trying to route a 540 mile trip on a tablet is almost impossible due to size of tablet Can anyone offer advice? When I use the automatic route the app takes me most direct..not necessarily the way I need to go. Thx!

What kind of MFD does the boat have? Raymarine's running Lighthouse 17 can use a Navionics Card and get dock to dock guidance. Some of the newer MFD's have proprietary wifi that can connect to your tablet.
