Ok. That confirms my issue with the article. The boaters aren't the problem, so boating classes and life jackets won't do squat. They should have really talked about beach/lake safety.Golfman, I have been on Lake Lanier since 1995 and the idiots seem to really be out in force this season. Our water isn't cold, surface temp +80 degrees. The seven referenced were swimming from shore. We have a lot of parks around the lake and inexperienced swimmers seem to wind up on the losing end of a big lake.
I've always preached that everyone learn to swim. When my granddaughters were little I insisted they take lessons or they couldn't come on the boat. They both turned into excellent swimmers, they can swim miles at a time now....and I still worry about them. There are swimming areas around some of the lakes in the DFW area. Every summer there are people who are wading out in the lake who can't swim, no floatation. They wander out too far and step over a drop off.
Sad.
Yep, sad all these drownings and accidents. Another young lady, I think 16yo, died on a jetski this weekend. Also had a guy that owns a 410 Meridian smack a brand new SeaDoo into the side of a docked boat at the Marina. It was his dock neighbors boat! I don't get it, you would think that someone with a vessel that size would have some common sense...
Every weekend is crazy on Lake Norman, just like Wylie, both were crazy 16 yrs ago...… lolCrazy weekend on Lake Norman. One man drowned on Saturday after jumping off of a pontoon boat into water. A 16 year old died when two jet skis collided. Two boats collided Friday night with numerous injuries.
Well said BillThe big lakes are just a free for all on the weekends. Most people have no clue about boating rules, so no point in depending on anyone obeying them. You just have to stay out of everyone's way - regardless of who has right of way etc. And it doesn't matter if it's a 20ft pontoon or a 50ft whatever.
