Leaking Gear Lube - How to fix?

The gear lube bottle on my 1985 SeaRay Alpha One has been leaking as you can see from the pictures. One marina tried to seal it with something which you can see between the bottle and the hex fitting, but it did not work.

The price for a new kit is upwards of $400 Canadian after shipping from the US which is just ridiculous...

Does anyone have suggestions on how to stop this leak?

Rig up one of those square plastic newer models for around $50. Fab a bracket for it
