Lofrans progress 1 tension fingers

Are these kits still available ?

Yes, I have both versions of the finger in stock. Which one do you need? I do not supply any of the hardware. You can get all the original hardware from P2Marine.com
If you only need the finger please go to PayPal, enter my email address and send me $60 which includes tax and shipping.

Best regards,

What are the 2 different fingers for? Different models or all chain, chain/rope?

I have a Maxwell windlass and had a similar issue earlier this year where the finger, split pin, and spring needed to be replaced.

The dumb engineers at Maxwell put the split pin in the windlass base rather than machining it into the finger like the Lofrans pictured here. I had to drill a hole in upper part of the windlass just to get access to the pin from above. Of course the pin didn't want to come out, so I had to drill it out as well. What a pain. Took several hours to do with hardened bits. Installed the new kit and the problems have been solved.

The two are not interchangeable. The larger one on top is for the 2002 and later versions which take a 9 mm stud held in by a set screw. The one on the bottom is pre 2002 version which uses an 8 mm threaded stud.

To pull up my anchor I gotta hold the finger against the rope for it to reel in, I recently replaced the spring and it didn’t fix the problem, would that be because I need to replace the finger ??

Yes, how wore is your finger?

The tension finger is very possibly the problem assuming that you are using at least 5/8 diameter rope. The chain will wear deep groove in the tip of the finger over time . If you have a photo please post it. Take a look at this photo of an old finger next to one of my new replacement fingers.

Great timing. Just replaced my 9mm spring today on my Progress 1. The old one didn’t look terrible, but I was having trouble with it reeling in rope, particularly at the rope/chain splice. The new spring didn’t fix it. Wondering if I need a new tension finger, too? Hate just replacing parts without some indication that they are the actual problem...

how is the condition of your rope and your splice?

I was forever dealing with the finger not properly gripping the rope and jams at the splice. New spring helped but didn’t completely resolve the issues.

I just replaced my chain and rope with new from AnchorLift. The new rope is 24 plait braid and is machine spliced to the chain. Night and day difference.

I was thinking the same thing, too. My rode is 17 years old, I think. I need to replace my anchor so a new rode is likely. I was thinking that may be the solution.

I spoke with Mike Dixon and he makes fingers for both versions of the tension fingers (see pic below). I'm thinking it's not the tension finger, since it wasn't the spring. But we will see. When I do get a new rode, at least i'll have rebuilt the mechanisms that handle it! I'll report back when I receive it and install it.

I just ordered a pre 2002 lofrans progress 1 kit from you on PayPal. Thanks for having these available.

Bruce,
Yes I received your order today and I've already shipped your part out. Your expected delivery date is Friday the 31st. Please note that I no longer supply any hardware with the fingers. You can buy an M8 x 40 mm long flange head screw or bolt and washer but I highly recommend using the original hardware which is all available at p2marine.com
