Just bought a 1978 240 SDB and I am looking for a shop manual, but am having no luck. Can anyone help? The boat needs a bit of restoration and I thought it would be a good idea to know where everything is supposed to go and how everything is supposed to work.

Thanks

The above is a link to the engine manuals. I think that's all there is. I have not been able to find any boat owners manuals for the early 70's. I don't think there were any. I have a 1972 190 SRV with a 1978 engine. Never been able to find a manual for the boat. The same link has brochures for some 1970's boats and other mercruiser manuals.

Sea Ray did publish a "Dealer Service Manual" for several years. It generally covered the changes made from year to year with in a model. Those manuals included wiring schematics, plumbing layouts, and a bilge layout for all below deck components. If you know Sea Ray's basic method of assembly....i.e. what goes on which side of the main bulkhead, what usually drain to which bilge sump, etc. Then with the schematics mentioned above, you can pretty well figure out where stuff is supposed to go.

The bad news is the "Dealer Service Manuals" were produced internally and were only sent to dealers. I have a great relationship with my local dealer and I was able to borrow the Palm Coast factory's manual for the boats they produced in 1996-1998.....all the years they published Dealer Service Manuals for our boat, the 450DA.

I rather doubt the local dealer or Sea Ray retained those manuals for 42 year old models, but at one time they did provide the information in them to dealer's service departments.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the info. No Sea Ray dealers close to me but knowing they published something at one time means maybe I can find something online. No timeline on getting the boat done, except my desire to get it in the water. If I need to go point by point, I can do that. The wiring is in place, so I just need to make sure it is all connected. I'm just one of those guys that likes to have as much available information as possible.
