You paid $37k for a boat and trailer with something like a $75k MSRP for the boat alone?Saw this on Facebook this morning. In 2005 we bought new same boat motor combo and a trailer for $37k... interesting last 15 years in the boating industry... now compare 15yr ago pricing to similar boat today...crazy

Wow! What kind of boat and money we talkingI have another story to add regarding the market... My good friend just bought a sight unseen pocket cruiser from 1100 miles away. He hired a surveyor and split the cost with the seller. He received the report this morning and then wired the money to the seller. A Uship driver showed up and is now enroute with the boat in tow. This literally all occurred in under 2 days from the time he found the ad online. Mind blown!

Here?
Your friend is nuts.40k pocket cruiser. 2006? 25'? Something along those lines. 1 owner. No bottom paint. Outdrive looks new still. Surveyor found a couple of spider cracks in the gel coat and the fuel inlet hose needs replacement (cracking).
It wasn't my recommendation for sure, however, I think after reading the survey report that it's fairly low risk for a small(er) boat.Your friend is nuts.
And I am curious why the seller paid for 1/2 of the survey? It wasn't my recommendation for sure, however, I think after reading the survey report that it's fairly low risk for a small(er) boat.

Yeah, in this day and age you would think surveyors are overbooked and we can't get truck drivers to show up, sometimes for days.My friend's boat was delivered an hour earlier than expected yesterday. 3PM the driver showed up vs 4PM quoted. I went over last night and was honestly blown away. The outdrive still has the original Merc gloss on it. The hull shines like new. The carpet in the cockpit doesn't even look like it's been walked on. The cockpit seating looks new. The canvas even looks brand new. I checked the hour meter and it's at about 330 hrs, so it's definitely been used a hair under 30 hrs per year which is about average for a day boater. We splashed it right away and went out for the balance of the evening. Stopped for dinner on the water and returned to the dock last night. A few things I found that need addressing, but overall a SOLID buy. The seller told my friend that 15 people had called on the boat since listing it two days ago. In 2 days it was surveyed, price negotiated and money wired, quote received for shipping/locked in/paid for, 1100 miles shipped, then splashed and tested. I have never seen a boat deal go down so fast in my life.
What are you talking about? That’s “turn key” condition.Well, my BIL wants to join the ranks of new boat buyers that shouldn’t do it. So he asked me for some thoughts and help. I told him it was not a good time to buy, and its really not. I swear that if I had no moral compass, I could make a decent amount of money in a side-hustle throwing boats from salvage yards on trailers and selling them as “just needs a tune up and cleaning”. Because that is what a lot of the boats on the market look like.
I think that's already happened in my area. There are several storage lots that were full of old boats and the boats are gone, seriously probably hundreds gone!!Well, my BIL wants to join the ranks of new boat buyers that shouldn’t do it.
