Has anyone come up with a way to store their RIB on the 38 Dancer with the door in the middle of the transom that swings out?? I think the typical Hurley type will now work as it will prevent the door from opening. Anyone have a solution?

Do you have any photos of them installed on your boat? Also do you have to remove the outboard or do they work with the outboard on?

Here are some pics. You dont need to remove outboard... I highly recomend removing it to avoid additional g-force on your transom when the waves kick up during nasty sea conditions... on the 38DA there is plenty of room for the OB in the port transom locker.

The Hurley system has 36 inch extension rods that allow you to mount the davits further back off the swim platform. They look like they should provide plenty of room for the transom door.

Problem with HURLY extensions is that the 38 wake is high to and from planing, the dighny will get bounced up from wake... The St Croix also is less work on loadind and unloading... two pulleys hook on to dinghy and just pull :smt038 , no need to heave and slide 100lbs plus, espeacially if sea conditions are kind of rough when you get back to your boat...

Yeah but with the dinghy extended back that far you run into trouble dealing with slips. You're stuck having to use a MUCH longer slip, both at home and overnighting elsewhere. This translates into longer water hose and shore power lines too. Not to mention the added length of stern lines.

Can you send me some more photos directly to my e-mail it is (emailjoshua @ gmail.com)? Especially if you have any of the boat anchored out with dinghy on the davit, running, side to a dock, etc.

Also, did you mount them on the right and left the same distance from the centerline or did you have to off-set them?

Those are the 6" extensions correct?

A word of caution

The St. Croix swing away type of davit you are considering will place large loads at the attachment points on your SP. Make sure you can handle the forces of weight multipled by leverage of the dink hanging 4 ft. out.

Plus, you need to consider the dink filling with water when the drain plugs with debris.

I just got an inflatable floor dinghy and I'm thinking of just lashing it to the deck. It weighs 63 pounds. I haven't tried it yet but I jus don't want anything on the swim platform on which to tear my foot open. Any thoughts?

I will let you guys know right off that I am not a SR owner..yet. It better be soon though because I'm pushing 70 already!

I just had to reply to the question about the 38 dancer dingy davit.

I have spent an unbelievable amount of time researching this question writing to manufacturers, surfing the net and even though I have no first hand experience with it, it looks to me like the setup from Sealift-Seathrust is about the best solution and the one I intend to use.

Their shop is about 12 miles from Merritt Island and you MIGHT be able to get them to install it on a new boat before it gets shipped out to you. ) According to them, Sea Ray has thoroughly tested their product this past spring. (2007)

See it here:

The video and the site photo gallery shows it on a Dancer 38 so I think it is really pertinent to this topic.

I'll let you check it out yourself rather than tell you about it here.

In second place I "nominate" the Freedom lift.

Both store the dink flat and the drain plug should be removed while its stored.

By the way the beach ball method of keeping rain water of the dinks cover is really good except for the storage problem. My suggestion would be a couple of broomstick sized dowels with tennis balls on the end. Much easier to stow away :smt001

Thanks for letting a lubber butt in...Please carry on.
