Ok I bought my '06 240SD at the end of Oct '06.

At time of delivery they were very through and went through the whole boat with me making note of all scuff's/scrapes/dings/airvoids anything that was not right it was written down.

They said when you bring it back for your 20hr service we will go ahead and take care of this list. I was fine with that it was nothing that wouldn't keep me from using the boat.

Months go by and I'm not able to use the boat as much as I like due to work/family/vacation etc but finally I get to 20+ hours and take it in. Also the last time out I rubbed the bow on a concrete dock causing a scrape.

I take it in on a sat to MM where I bought it and they tell me they will call me monday with an estimate on the gell coat work that I did.

Mon comes and goes and I finally call them Thur to get a guy that is just filling in and doesn't know anything but will call me back. Next day he calls me back says it will be about $200 for the fix and that the 20hr service for my boat will be $160. Week goes by, another week goes by, they call tell me the airvoids are taking longer then expected and that they will not have the boat ready by the weekend (this was last weekend) so another week goes by (3+ now).

Should I be concerned about these airvoids? The other things they had to do was restamp the tread pattern as it was very flawed in alot of areas. They were also going to fix the bildge pump/float switch as it didn't turn on when I was cleaning the boat while I had it on the water.

I'm sure I'm not the only boat they are working on but it just seems like a long time now with no real answers.

Air voids are not uncommon and can usually be repaired without too much difficulty. It is my understanding that repairs in the non-skid areas are a lot more difficult to do properly.

But it seems the real problem is their lack of follow-up with you. There may be a lot of reasons they haven't completed your boat, but the fact is they have dropped the ball in terms of keeping you in the loop. :smt021

If you still feel you are getting the runaround, then talk to your salesman and see if he can get you the straight story. If that doesn't work then talk to the General Manager at MM.

Thanks Dave. Throwing my "weight" around there is not a problem. I don't mind the time they have taken i've not really had time to use the boat anyways.

I was just more concered with if air voids could be a very serious problem. They did tell me the non-skid was difficult but they had one off the best people to do it and it would look better then from the factory. It was the call about the air voids that bothered me the most they are at the very very bottom of the boat and they said they were having to grind them out to fix.

My sales guy there is TOP NOTCH and I'd recommend him to anyone. The General Manager and me have already had conversations back when negotiating a price and financing and how bad the financing person was but that's a whole different story/thread.

Either way i've 100% satasfied with MM so far I was just concerened more with what is being repaird rather then how long it's taking.

From what I know most of the air voids occur in corners or bends on the hull. Someone more versed in the building process may be able to give you reasons for them. Even if water does get into the hull thru a void, they can remove enough of the gelcoat to dry everything out before repairing it. BTW.......there is no wood in the hull of a 240SD.

even if they had to redo all nonskid on boat it wouldn't take more than 2-3 days
somebody is lying to you
don't call them just stop by the boat yard and check if they even started working on your boat:)
welcome to mm world - do you still have your boating dream?

Actually I'm ready to upgrade to a 310 DA or something if only money grew on trees :)

in Florida heat it takes less then a day to repair a few voids, figure one day to spray, one day to polish.

Shitty that for $200 worth of retail repairs they could not just put it through as warranty, especially after making you wait this long.

Well that's what they quoted me i've not paid for anything yet so I may be negotiating on that :)

Would be nice if my first scratch was a FREEBEE

I'll be going there thursday night for the Storm Prepardness class so I'm gonna look around and see if I see my boat and see if it's done or not.

morpheus;

you got it at the clearwater store?! i don't know whats up with the service manager their but about 2 years ago that whole service department went to shit...

their follow through and follow up with customers stinks. I think the technicians are good but the management that runs the shop is either over loading the techs or just have no customer responsiveness.

for something as simple as replacing an IAC sensor they wanted me to leave my boat in the water stranded for 2 weeks before they got to it. my response "no way", I forced the issue and got them out there 2 days later.

If I was you I would stop by this week un announced and walk out the back door and find your boat, then talk to the service manager and ask whats taking so long.

Yup the clearwater MM. The Sales guy is awsome. Always availble for my questions even when he's not even at work off for the day he answers his cell.

The finance person is also a piece of work.

Basically if it hadn't been for the sales guy and the good deal I got on the boat I wouldn't of bought from there.

I'm glad I've not had time to use the boat cause if I had they would have my foot in the not so sunny side, which they might get anyways.

Thanks for the heads up. The only good thing about service so far was the female that helped me when I dropped the boat off was very nice to look at.

Anyways I'll nose around Thursday evening when I go and then follow up after with probably my sales guy and the service manager.

Welp Finally got a call from MM :smt013

They say it won't be till atleast Wednesday of Next week before I get my boat back.

They are saying they have had to wait for the airvoids to dry out that they couldn't use a heat gun to dry them out before fixing them.

This will be 4+ weeks they have had it to do the 20hr service plus the items noticed when I took delivery back at the end of Oct 06 which were, bad non-skid, air-voids, chip/scratch in helm storage door and bildge pump not working. Plus 2 hours work on the scratch I did on a concrete dock.

I told them they should be giving me the boo boo for free and put it under warrenty since it's taken so long they said that however he's like to that they can't cause they have to provide sea-ray with photos of the warranty work.

So do I have a resonable gripe here? I mean I've made 1 boat payment and 1 storage payment and no boat to use. Back between oct and feb the boat got used only a couple times cause of the weather and stuff and now during prime boat season the have had it for 4 weeks.

If I'd known it was going to be a month I wouldn't of taken delivery or paid them until it was 100% saving me a bunch of money.

This is so agravating.

It's time for a talk with the general manager. Do it in a professional non threatening way but definitely let him know how unhappy you are.

Morpheus....we had a lot of gelcoat issues with our Sundeck during the first two years of ownership. Very frustrating to say the least. But it was what it was and I knew the only way it was going to be resolved was with a lot of persistance & patience. I'm a firm believer in you scratch my back and I'll scratch back twice as hard. It sounds to me like you're the only one scratching here.
I would strongly suggest you give Searay a call (865-522-4181). I found the Searay folk to be very sympathetic to our issues which btw were resolved through the cooperation of Searay, the dealer and us. With just a few taps on the keyboard, our "cosmetic" issues were changed to "structural" issues just so they would be covered under warranty. It changed the way everyone involved viewed the repair(s).
I don't know a lot about MM, but based on your comments here you certainly have earned the right to be frustrated. Good Luck. Scott

edit: btw...we had an air void in our hull that was repaired in a day or so.

Yes they right, they should halogen lights to dry area. They try to sell you some BS or rather MMBS.
