I was looking at a few boats in the LI area. Are all of the marinas up there salt water, brackish or freshwater. Sorry for the ignorance here. I assume they are brackish or salt water.

hello all northeasters. When is it safe to start to think about dropping your boat in the water and slipping it? My marina will let me take my slip in as little as 2 weeks but it's still freezing outside. I would like to take advantage of a quite marina to practice but I don't want to damage the boat with freezing weather.

Most marina's around here (NJ) let you put the boat in around April 1st-15th. I wouldn't want to go in much earlier than that.

This is what the Toms River in NJ looked like on Saturday....

.....frozen pretty good....Barnegat Bay is also frozen.....the local forcast is for Darn Cold weather the end of this week again....

I would wait until late March/ early April....and even at that, I would NOT recommission the water, HVAC, Head or genie until late April time frame just to be sure....

For last 5 years i have gone in the first week of march.....

I also come out around dec 1st...

The one draw back is that the buoys arent in until around april 20th.... its a scam up here....

and all the water here in the sand box is salt water...
