Official 380 Thread

Does anyone know where the cockpit stereo amp is on our boat, and the make/model? Is there an amp for the cabin speakers as well?

I'd be curious to hear from those who have upgraded theirs, what components you went with.

Mine was already updated when I purchased the boat.
It’s a Fusion UD750.

The PO had replace the factory stereo, added speakers in the platform (which I wouldn’t of)

but I am pretty sure this is accurate

my 2000 380 amp was behind the long couch behind the right seat back (under main electrical panel). Slide the seat bottom out, there will be about 5 screws down low, remove those and lift the seat back off…

The salon was fed by the power of the stereo and the cockpit had an amp to do the 4 cockpit speakers and sub.

I went with 6 cockpit speakers (2 forward, 4 on the arch) and an additional 2 at the platform

I used a kicker kxm800.5 to drive the 6 arch speakers and the sub and a kicker 400.2 to drive the platform speakers. I used the fusion 770 which gives me 3 zones for the cockpit and a 4th (powered by the unit) for the salon… I also have a ms-erx400 remote in the platform along with a couple of the cheap wireless remotes.

really like the control of the 770, it allows me to adjust the zones that keeps my wife happy….

The subwoofer on my 380 is mounted user a bench seat on the starboard side. Does anybody know how much depth there is? I want to buy a new sub but I forgot to remove the old one to check the depth before I left the boar the last time I was on it.

Has anyone added anything behind their sub, any kind of material or the like to get improved sound?

There should be plenty of room. I have a JL M6 in mine

Okay, I know you're responding to my other thread, just trying to figure out how this four channel amp was powering five speakers from the factory

Boat refit ongoing. Starboard diesel 3116 engine did in fact require a rebuild. Both engines currently at T&S Marine in Crisfield MD. A potential rebuild was built into the boat purchase price. The port engine is a CAT remanufactured engine with 100 hours on it, so I'll have roughly matched engines when completed.

The swim platform had some cracks in the support stringers, so removed the platform (while the engines were out), to glass and refurbish the platform. Well.... one thing leads to another. The inside transom core was bad.
Sea Ray had an odd construction technique for the transom. They sprayed the gelcoat into the mold then laid up the fiberglass. Then they sprayed gelcoat on top of the fiberglass. After that, they added wood coring layers then a 3/16" layer of fiberglass.
Over the years, the flexing of the whole area, with the swim platform cantilevered off the transom, caused cracking of the inner layer of gelcoat. This set up a perfect wicking scenario, to draw water through the 16 platform mount bolts into the wood coring material.
Removed everything down to the outer transom fiberglass. Getting the gelcoat layer out was a bitch. Turned out the most efficient method was a really sharp wood chisel (resharpen often) to take off chunks at time, the numerous cracks facilitated this process. Then sand with 40 grit. Going build back up with 1/2" sheets of Coosa Bluewater fiberglass panels and five layers (or more) of 1708 fiberglass biaxial cloth and epoxy. The original fiberglass skin was 3/16" (0.1875) and 1708 is 0.044 thick so around 5 layers needed. We'll see when I get into it.

The swim platform will come home for refurbishment. Will post pictures. Plan on using epoxy for repairs then coating with Alexseal epoxy paint. The non-skid will be soft sand ground rubber, encased by the epoxy paint. Used this on the Beneteau 361 and was very happy with the results.

While I'm at it... removed the diesel fuel tanks and will replace with brand new ones from Atlantic Coastal Welding. In the grand scheme of things, I DO NOT want to have to deal with a future fuel leak if I can take care of it now while the engine bay is wide open. $5246 for the two tanks. They are identical replacements, welded using the original blueprints provided by Florida Marine Tanks (FMT). Spoke to two different people at FMT, both told me I should replace the 20 year old tanks if I already have the engine bay opened up to remove them.

Going to replace all the hoses I can, again so I don't have to deal with 20 year old hoses, while the engine bay is empty.
Also replaced the entire 42 Gallon vacuflush system in the engine bay, purchased from Aquastar. Direct replacement of the original system.
There is the one hose that goes from the head, back into the engine bay, which has to be replaced.
Pulled the refrigerator to get to the hose coupling. The picture shows it going into a PVC pipe that runs back to the engine bay.

While I'm at it... going to replace the original Norcold refrigerator.
Has anyone with a 380DA purchased and installed the Nova Kool RFU9000 refrigerator?
There is this thread discussing refrigerators, including the Nova Kool, Norcold and Vitrifrigo.
The reason I'm thinking about this model is the freezer is on the bottom. I'm 6'3", so all of the fridges are short enough, without having the freezer on the top. I'll rarely use the freezer anyway.
One area of concern is the reported depth of the unit of 22.75". Measured the left side of the cabinet which is only 19" deep. There's a fiberglass bump out, limiting the depth. 2.75" is a lot to make up if it sticks out that much.

One of the YouTubers I followed used the vitrifrigo. He has a video on the whole thing I can share with you. I too am 6'3 iand like the idea of the freezer being on the bottom, that's what I have at my house. I didn't know that was possible until I just read this from you.

I'd love to see the video on replacing the fridge.

Was this the one? Unfortunately, that's not a 380DA so the cabin door system is different. I don't think we need to remove the cabinet, just the grab bar. However, pretty sure the sliding doors have to come off.

Yes, that's the one. I find him a bit annoying, but some of his stuff is helpful.

Does anyone have instructions or a video on how to remove the sliding cabin doors? I've done some searches but haven't found any really good instructions. I know the cockpit pad above the companionway has to come off and there are fasteners underneath. I guess I can mess with it and figure it out.

Also, for upholstery and general lifting of covers, this $11 pair of reverse pliers works.

I paid a local service guy in Kent Island to replace all of my rollers before I brought it down to the Potomac, he was good. He may be able to tell you. I have not found a video either.

I cringed when he put power to it so quickly after having it upside down and on it's side. Looks like a heck of a project.
