This may be of interest. It is a test of marine oil verses car oil. Any one seen similar for the other manufactures of marine oil?

Yes, this is another topic where everyone has an opinion, and there is no right, wrong or best solution.
It depends how you boat, where you boat, engines.

On the Great Lakes with a short season and fresh water, hopefully you change it when you layup, then acid resistance or anti corrosion additives are less important.
In Florida with a year round boating season and salt water different needs.
All marine engines work much harder than any automotive engine. 75 to 100% HP output quite often.

So me, I have a diesel truck, tractor, generator/welder. I always have multiple 5 gallon jugs of Shell Rotella T4 around.
So I run Rotella in everything. Being an oil for diesels it has most all these HD features and additives.

If I were running year round like Florida I would likely use a synthetic.

p.s.
Cant agree with video, not as objective as it seems because of the above variables. Standard auto oils is penny wise and dollar foolish.

Agree with Pat, if there was any truth to that video all the big horsepower guys at OSO would be touting it

I've heard it said "any oil is better than no oil" and everyone has an opinion - I have brands I like and no point in even getting into that cause some will agree and some won't. Just use something that meets the specs manufacture recommends.

There are many many other things that are going to kill your marine engine long before the effects of what oil you are using.

To save money go to wallyworld and buy the cheepest oil they have.

Or,...........read the Owner's Manual and buy the recommended brand name that the engine manufacturer recommends.

The difference in cost every time you change the oil won't even amount to the money you spent for beer while you're doing the work, and there will be no question whether the oil was good or not.

I have always used the Rotella T6 full synthetic oil. I gained 4.2MPG in my ol 6.5l K2500HD. And it quieted the thing down some too. I have it in the tractor and the Duramax now too. I never thought of running it in the boat. I have just always spent the money for the Merc oil. And again went with the synthetic. After having the head gaskets go and all the coolant that went into the oil, I was told on rebuild that the full synthetic saved the main bearings and such. That it penetrates the pores in the metal and protects on a micoscopic level. Sounded good to me so I have just used it.
