Damn. No major damage, just kind of rounded it out on the bottom slightly. File and paint it, but man, hate myself for doing it!!!

Luckily ramp is asphalt and it was hot, so it was a bit soft.

I was in a rush to get off the lake yesterday as I had my wife's car keys, and had to bring them to her work. Damn.

Wont. do. it. again.

Scratched is all, what are you complaining about. I removed most of mine trying to get home before the thunderstorm, prop now sticks down lower that what is left of the skeg. :smt089 There was something really hard down there. Oh well drop the lower unit and go to the local prop shop and get it fixed.

Ouch! Maybe a dumb q (please dont delete my precious points!) but if you only take off a slight edge like I did, will control be compromised at all?

So you are going to have to get a new skeg, huh? Sucks arse.

Not really a dumb question, I have wondered about that myself. I have not noticed any control problems with mine almost gone so you will never know it running.

Yes, new skeg. They will probably cut off what is left and put complete new one on.

You get to keep your points.

I figured it should be fine running. Really, I just kind of rounded the front angled area slightly.

Im glad I get to keep my points. My wife promised me a bj if I get up to 30.

Oh, and I would award you some points to get ya on the board, but:

"You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later." is the message I get now. I'm too kind...

How did I know I would find a post about this:) I was there to witness it all unfortunately. That is the worst sound ever... then again I would imagine the smashing of your boat into a sea wall you didn't know was there to be a tad worst... so maybe not so bad.

Put a stainless skeg guard on. It takes 30 minutes or less to install, it looks really good and holds up to almost any abuse.

Hahahahahaha!!!

I think we all need to give you some points to help a brotha out.

Doug

Hahahahah

Done,

Now you do not have to worry about it as it has already happened. I did it although very slightly about the third time I was pulling the boat out of the water, I was not as brave as you, I came home and pm'd Jeremy to see what I should do. Stopped by the dealer the next day, did the walk of shame, whispered to the service manager what had happened, he came out and laughed and said I was over reacting and he would not worry about it. Next time I had it in for service they would fix it but if I ever wanted to see some bad drives to let him know and he would take me through the dry stock yard. Matter of fact I just remembered i did not have them file and paint it when I had it serviced last year, got to remember to tell them to take care of it this year. I have never noticed it out on the water, mater of fact I forgot it happened until I read your post.

The skeg is for guidance yes, but also will help deflect any lighter debris down and away from your prop while underway. It's not a Foolproof guard by any means but it is there to help. If you have removed quite a bit exposing the prop you may want to have it repaired. I'm not sure I'd add the stainless one, but that is a good option. Everytime I have seen one of those I always think " That guy must have hit something and his skeg must look like a Shark's tooth.

Just for clarification mine was very lightly mainly scratched the skeg, did not remove any chunks from the skeg. Protection from objects still in place. Just wanted to clarify.

Todd you are referring to my post, yes my prop now sticks out below what is left of the skeg, no shark tooth, broke straight across, I was in a turn when it happened. It will be repaired.

The only time you would notice any handling issues would be at idle speed if your skeg was mostly gone. Under normal circumstances most people wouldn't even notice. Just paint it and move on. although I agree that there is a bit of prop protection when it's intact.
