I have a fairly new Chromebook and I have installed OPenCPN using Linux. Downloaded some charts and it works fine. I bought a USB GPS receiver and tried to install, but there are no drivers out there for Linux. According to some sources, a driver is not necessary, but I do have to install GPSD. Wondering if anyone out there has experience with this.

@Bill Goetz You can use this Garmin BT GPS receiver: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/645104 Open Plotter should see it as a serial connection.

Most of OpenPlotter/Captain is designed around receiving N2K PGN's. I have it installed on a Rasp-Pi on my boat and have played around with it for last two years. Haven't tried it on my Chromebook yet, great idea.
