Hey all,
I thought this needed to be in it's own posting.
ODOT for account is 503-373-0000
After you have your account number call A Work Safe Services 503-391-9363
You will need the tow vehicle VIN, GVWR, Make & Model, unit number and width of load. $8 a year or by the 10 day. They do not give info so if you have questions, you have to ask. I was told all answers to questions will be included with the maps and attachments.
If you plan to drive other than state or fed highways, you will need to call each county to file for permits in said counties. This only applies to annual permits. A 10 day will have directions that have to be followed and county permits will be figured in. So, I live two miles off of one highway and 6 miles off another, I will need to call two counties to get permits in both to drive my road. But if I was driving through Salem headed to Detroit Lake, I would not need a permit to pull through down town as it is considered a state highway.
Along with the permit they will send maps of go-no go roads within the state along with maps of width limits for some roads and day and time limits for roads. This attachment needs to be read very carefully as it can be very confusing. And the times are dependent on the width of the towed load and length. At a total length of 57' I am good for most roads during "daylight hours". Again read carefully.
The fastest I have ever received anything from the state was the permits. From call to having in hand was three days. An all time new record.
I will see if I can get the guy down the road from me will come give me any tips or needed advise for a private load. He is an Oregon State Trooper.
I was going to scan the documents but with all the personal info in the permit, I decided to leave those out. And the maps are pretty big and won't scan without a large format scanner.
Any questions, just ask.
John
