Hey Guys,
I think I know the answer but I thought I should ask just to be sure. What outdrive will fit my boat. I think I can use any Alpha One, regardless of the Generation because they all have the same gear ratio and 20-22 gear teeth. Is that right? So if I get a Alpha One Gen 2 will it be okay?
Thanks,
Billy

The Gen2's are different, you will need to change the bell housing and the gimbal housing. Not sure what the difference is, but this is what I've been told.

If you need a new outdrive, I would go here...

Has anyone on used these drives? The prices are certainly attractive at $1600 for a complete A1Gen 2 unit - with a 3 yr warranty. I did a quick search and found this one for a bit less.

I have not, but a few at my marina have. No issues at all...

Yeah there are a lot of guys at my marina that have the sterndrives as well, I think thats what Im going to go with.
Thanks,
Billy

Yea the sterndrive is the one I was talking about, they are completley compatable with mercruiser and only 1200 for a complete outdrive.

I also have a 1980 Searay 260. They didn't even have Alpha 1s in 1980. So, was your outdrive and Gimbal already changed?

No, not to my knowledge. I thought that the Alpha One Gen One would mount right up to the 80 DA, will it not? Im pretty sure the Sterndrive (SE106) is what they sell for our boat which is what I will probably go with unless I can find a good used Alpha One for cheap.
Thanks
