Panel dimmer not working

On my 1990 310 EC the instrument panel dimmer knob (rotary knob) no longer works. Panel lights are full on all the time. It used to work, but one of the panel illumination lights (starboard voltmeter) got shorted out due to a loose connection on the back of the instrument. At the time i kept loosing my navigation lights and had to keep hitting the reset breaker for the navigation lights. Once i found the loose connection and fixed it, the dimmer knob no longer worked. The navigation lights do work.

I do not see any fuses or breakers for the dimmer, nor are there any wiring diagrams showing how the dimmer is wired.

Any suggestions?

you need new dimmer switch (knob)
it is only 3 wires connected to it
