Help,
I posted a week ago in the regular Sea Ray Forum about my problem, So far, no responses. I will try here since I am working on my Classic Sea Ray SRV 190 W/Mercrusier 165 With Pre Alpha O/D.
The trim motor runs fine It will raise the O/D no matter which buttons you push and it will not go down.
Help, anyone have any wiring or schmatics. I have checkd the pump fluid it's half full with the O?D 3/4 of the way up.
I have just replaced the engine and manifold and all the cooling hoses and Trim up and down worked fine before Now after sitting over the winter it won't move in the down direction.

Thanks to all that respond..

"The trim motor runs fine It will raise the O/D no matter which buttons you push and it will not go down."

That line is a little confusing. IF the motor runs when you hit the button then u have a hydraulic valve not opening to allow the fluid out of the cylinders. The valve is normally electric operated. Every Merc unit I've had has this problem ofter sitting for a while. IF when you push ANY button it hoes up..... then u have an electrical issue. Most likely in the switch, but as much possible you have a wire touching something.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response, I will recheck the wiring. Seems like it's going to be at the remote switch at the helm as I have checked all the wiring to the pump and solenoids.
Thanks again, Mike

I had the same problem. I think, but can't remember for sure if the out drive has to be in the full down position while adding oil to the pump, but I believe so. Put the out drive in the full down position and then add oil to the pump. Cycle and repeat the process until you are sure that the pump is full of oil and all air is out of lines. I think you can use 30w motor oil. If you have to, push down on the drive while someone pushes the trim button. One of the rams (I think that's what they are called) was leaking because the cap had come lose and I was losing oil there. It was a brand new ram that I had the shop that does work on my boat had put on. I added some lock tight and tightened in back down added oil as described above and now no problems. I know this is an old post, but this info may help someone else.

Not sure if they are the same as the Alpha Gen 1's, but if they are, there is a solenoid for up, and another one for down. If it's not a hydraulic problem, you might want to try swapping the solenoids out and see if the problems moves. They are real cheap, so it might even pay to just get a new one. If it isn't your problem, you'll have a spare for 15 or 20 bucks.

I had two problems with my trim last year. One was with the trim button contacts at the throttle, essentially, becoming flat from use and age. It was a little odd in that there is just a piece of metal in a 'u' shape that had become flattened, just enough, to prevent contact and complete the circuit. Second was that the solenoid at the pump for down had complete resistance. Ohms. Grab a meter and do some troubleshooting. Sorry, but I don't have the troubleshooting document at hand for trim pumps. I did find one after a quick internet search for my model.

If you do find the problem to be a solenoid, then it is a quick and cheap fix as pointed out by JVM225.
