Purpose/Use of Battery Parallel Switch?

Emergency start... when one battery goes down.

It’s for allowing the engine that won’t start to use the battery from the other engine. If your port engine, for example, won’t start because of a dead battery you press this button at the same time as your port engine start button. The engine will fire using the starboard engine’s batteries. Note that if both engine batteries are dead, you better hope you have a generator or a jump pack or you are out of luck.

Best practice is to start the engine that will run, and then parallel the other to it. You don't want to kill your good battery, so starting the good engine first will get the alternator charging going to give it the extra boost to help start the bad engine.

Took me a while to learn what this was for on my 1995 330DA, until I needed it.
