Cummins QSC 500s
Just had a survey on a 44DB with QSC500'S shouldn't there be a computer analysis of the engines history available none was given.
Also the starboard oil analysis of gear oil showed high copper what's that showing?

High copper in the gearbox would be a thrust washer I would think.

Don’t think the ECM’s save any history, other than maybe error codes. Your engine surveyor should have been plugged in recording all available parameters at different RPM’s. That data should be on your survey report.

Cummins keeps a computerized record of most everything they have seen or has been reported about a given engine. If Cummins did your survey, it's been my experience (albeit dated) that the surveyor would share that and include any relevant history in the report. I don't think a non-Cummins diesel person would have access to do that. If it was a Cummins person, there might not be much history unless Cummins was used in the past for some reason. I try to call in Cummins every few years for a look but they are quite expensive and most work on these engines tends to be done by local, non-Cummins mechanics.

I believe whomever connects to the Cummins electronic engines must use Cummins INSITE.
Very expensive to just have and keep licenses updated. Pretty much relegated to Cummins Service.
I don't know of any logging feature in the Q series ECM's other than uncleared fault code history.
Early diag was per SAE J1587 and later SAE J1939. Mine (2006) is J1587 with J1939 used for Smartcraft data sharing. My nine pin service tool diagnostic ports have both protocols.

If I recall correctly, when I had my survey done, they were able to produce a history of what percentage of the hours of the engine was spent at what throttle position. I have to go back and confirm for sure. Not sure if it was that helpful, TBH.

Check the service records for proper servicing. Especially the aftercoolers. Not the mythical 1000 hour service but done every three years.

How high was the copper? Were there other wear metals in the oil sample too? Was the oil sample taken directly from the sump or was an oil change system used? If a Reverso pump was used, the gears used to pump the oil are made of bronze and could contribute to high copper in the sample.
