Not sure if this is the place to post this, so forgive me if it is not (newbie). I am looking to buy a Nautley Dinghy Ramp HD+ Roll-On Boat Lift. I just bought a 2000 Sea Ray 340 DA and I have an older 11.5 foot Zodiac RIB with a 25 HP Mercury. Some guys on here have said that leaving the dinghy sit in the water all summer (even in the fresh water here in Michigan) is not good for the dinghy. Any chance anyone here would have this used dinghy ramp you would like to sell? As always, thanks for your help.

I would guess that your dink with motor can be around 250-300LBs. That's a lot of weight to "roll on/off" manually. But, I agree with suggestion that leaving the dink sitting in water is not the best idea, unless it has the bottom paint.

Try ebay and CL.

Alex,
As a follow up to wieght point that you brought up. Is that amount of weight too much to put on the platform? I'm thinking full tabs at all times to get the bow down or 500 feet of chain on the anchor.
I don't really know but, that is one of the reasons that I will purchase an 8-9' dink with an airfloor and, hopefully, an older 2 cycle motor to keep the weight down.
I just bring this up because the OP states he is a newbie and may not be thinking about how this will affect performance.

I had these on my 410 for a while until I bought my new center console Caribe. It worked great for my dink with a 6HP motor. I sold the entire setup to a friend (way too cheap) and he has a 10' Caribe RIB with a 15HP 2-stroke Mercury. That's about the largest I would put on there and even at that, while launching the first time, he flipped his Caribe upside down motor and all. IMO a 25HP outboard on your 340 swim platform is a bit much and the Davits are only rated 200lbs each so the stern of the dink with that motor is probably pretty close to that weight. Now add the pounding while hitting good size waves and the Davits will take a beating. This much weight would also affect the ride of you boat as well.

Todd,

It's possible that swim platform is rated for 300-400LBs, but this is something that needs to be verified with Sea Ray. I can't remember for sure, but I think I've asked that question while exploring different options for my 320DA and I think somewhere around 350LBs was the limit. Regardless, you're 100% correct in terms of overall vessel performance. But, we don't have any details as to how the boat is going to be used, so we can't say no it's not possible. But, as Ken mentioned, if the ramps limit is 200LBs, then we already know that if the complete setup of the dink exceeds that number, the OP is out of luck.

Unfortunately, it's one of those things where if one desires to carry larger water toys, there's only one option - get a big enough boat. IMO, a 35 or so footer goes fine with 9'-max 10' dinghy and under 15HP motor. Everything beyond that is pushing over the reasonable limits. Don't forget that you'll have back in to the slip in various conditions with whatever sits on your swim platform.

I am shopping for a 9' or less dingy w 6hp motor, do I need the HD+ or do you think the HD slide on will work ok for these?

I am another potential buyer if someone has a used set to sell, I have been looking for a Nautley booth at boat shows and it doesn't seem like they exhibit.

I really like the HD+ made a big difference when pulling it up....

Only reason I selling mine is that I made a Hydraulic lift over the winter..

PM me with and offer!

Thanks Todd

One thing is pretty obvious is that ramps with wheels will make the loading process much easier. The larger the dink and the motor, the more you need those wheels. All lighter ones will do fine without wheels. But, if you can have a good deal on the davits with wheels, why struggle? If you into weight lifting, gym is the best place to do it, not slippery swim platform.

Todd, a DIY hydraulic lift? Do you mind sharing your project?

I just sold my West Marine 310 soft bottom with a 6HP Mercury on Saturday! 2006 models with very low hours and gave it away for $1,300...

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I looked at the plate on the back of the dinghy and it said it's dry weight was 177 pounds. The 25 HP Merc weighs in at 114 pounds (not counting the 6.6 gallons in the gas tank). With that kind of weight (291 pounds minimum) and not knowing the weight limits for my swim platform, I am going to put off purchasing the dinghy lift until I am more sure if this is a good idea. Last thing I want to do is put myself and my family in danger out on the water! I guess worst case senario is I may have a dinghy, motor and trailer for sale! As usual you guys always come through!

Aren't the West Marine all PVC boats? I am avoiding PVC during my search and focusing on Hypalon, its going to be stored outside on the platform, although covered, but I hear the PVC disintegrates over time from exposure.

According to manufacturers, PVC has greatly improved over the years. It was recommended to me to spray the PVC with a UV protective spray (like suntan lotion for dinghys) on an occasional basis to keep the finish like new. Keep in mind that I'm in fresh water - salt may be a different matter.

For those of you who may be interested in the reply from Sea Ray regarding putting my dinghy and motor on my swim platform, here is their reply:
“Regarding adding the dinghy/motor to the swim platform, we would not recommend this and would caution against it. Tests have been conducted with a weight of 250 lbs added to the platform and the increase in the weight will make acceleration very sluggish and the boat will plane off slowly or not at all under full cockpit loading conditions (6people).”

Wonder if it would be okay to just keep this stored on my swim platform during the week, so it is not sitting in the water all the time, but not actually travel with the boat with the dinghy on board???

I hade a 9ft RIB with a 9.8HP outboard and the DinghyRamp on my 340DA, i didn't even notice it was back there. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Then what's the point of having the dinghy you can't use all the time and can't take it with you?

I don't know why you such dinghy, but in case if you bought to play around the dock, take it for short and fun trip (fishing or water sports), then you might want to treat it as a totally different boat (not a tender for your 340DA). So, you might want to look in to bottom paint it and keep in water all the time or keep it on a trailer. I can only imagine how much of a PITA it'll be to put it on/off 340 SP every time you want to use either boat.

I have the exact setup and my RIB and 9.9 HP 2 stroke motor weigh a combined 175 pounds. Don't even know it's back there on my 370 DA. But it takes all I have to pull it on and usually enlist the Admirals help.

As you can see, this was my original point. Despite the technical side of things, I just can't see how practical is to pull the 300LBs dinghy up on the ramps by hand on a slippery SP.

I couldn't agree more, I wanted to get a little larger RIB and motor but the reality was that I couldn't handle it (the boat and Davits likely could) . . . And I couldn't be happier!

I have the Nautley Davis with my 8' 11" Mercury inflatable airdeck and a 9.9hp (2 stroke), mine had the original small wheels that I changed to 5" trailer rollers do to me needing to lift my dinghy up about an inch and a half, this was to clear the 2 step platform on my 330. It is fairly easy 1 man operation pulling up, 2 people make it a piece a of cake. I have used a friend of mines 9' 2" RIB and 9.9hp motor and pulled it on to my Davis, and I think it was easier pulling the RIB up then my air deck.
