want to rebed my side windows and bow hatch this spring. bow hatch seems pretty easy. how about the side windows? is there a gasket or just remove all screws and reseal with 4200? mine aren't currently leaking but this spring i put some 4200 on them but did a pretty sloppy job so plan to do it right this time. i was going to pull the frames completely out. anything special i should watch out for?

forgot to mention...its a 1986 250DA

For what it's worth, I too am interested in this. Mine is a 1984 SR260EC, and the Port cabin window is leaking bad. The prior owner/rocket surgeon has covered the forward half of the window track with silicone, which route all the water to the rear half and into the 'slider gap' which routes all the water inside the boat.

Just found this out after launching for the first time (was under cover on land) and a rainstorm the next day. So I'm DEFINITELY interested in where this thread goes. Also, I remember something about a thread along this line, reading it 'somewhere' in the past. Right now I'm desperately searching for that thread.

I have removed an re-bed our 270DA side windows. Pull out the black rubber strip on the outside to access the screws. Not sure if it was done before by the previous owner but our screws were through the deck with nuts on the inside. I replaced them with new nylock nuts and off course needed a second set of hands on the inside.
While the windows were out I decided to completely disassemble them removing and re-bedding the plastic panes. There is a rubber seal on the outside that pulls out or the frame and the panes are bedded in. I polished out the scratches with Novus Plastic Polish. Do Not clean with windex as it will make them get tiny cracks all over. I used black 3M silicone to rebed the panes into the frame.
It really helps to have two people when re-installing the complete windows as they are just awkward to handle. After installing with 4200UV sealant I put a second bead along the entire perimeter. No more leaks.

I posted this other common issue below from Pachanga Boy's post in our: Official-(1982-1988)-270DA thread.

Note the narrow additional piece of plexiglass along the bottom that is sometimes missing. Our was out and in the cupboard when we made the purchase.

Hopefully this helps eh!

by the way guys if you haven't done it yet and you've ever wondered "where the heck is this water around the toilet coming from?" here is what I beleive to be the defect in the window assembly that lets water in and run along the inside screen track and down behind the toilet. If you slide the screen all the way forward you'll see a gap between the two tinted pieces of plexi. Its' just below the point of the screen here in the picture.

I just built it up with silcone. haven't had any water in the head since....took forever to find, I figured for sure it was coming in around the toilet itself.

thanks KC. i haven't noticed any water getting in at all but also haven't noticed the little piece of lexan you mentioned. i will have to look again to see if it is there. i'm just afraid of creating a bigger issue when trying to rebed the windows

Dow Corning 795 for the window to hatch bond

4000UV for bedding the hatch

thanks. i have seen that video before. are the side windows pretty much the same or is there a gasket that needs to be installed? i would think if done properly the silicone IS the gasket?

Digging in the garage I had found i used that same Dow Corning sealant for bedding -worked great.
First step is the same for bedding side windows but there is a rubber spacer/gasket that pushes the panel (from the inside) against the frame and fills the gap.
