Rocket launch

Here is that T-0 umbilical I was referencing previously. You can see the interface plate and how many electrical and fluid services go through it. It is very complex. When the solid booster motors are commanded to fire, the plate releases and the entire assembly retracts into that gray housing which is called the Tail Service Mast (TSM). Conversely, when the main engines start, several seconds before the booster engines are started, it stays connected so if there is a shutdown on a fault they can still drain the tank or recycle to a propellant replenish mode. There are blast doors that close over the T-0 assembly to protect it after it retracts. All of this happens in milliseconds.

It appears a tanking test this week and launch attempt before the end of the month. The big issue is the Flight Termination System (FTS) battery certification by Range Safety. NASA is in the process of requesting a waiver to extend the certification.
Umbilical Release test video to show how the retract systems operate -

Just one of the main engine turbopumps produces over 30,000 horsepower. The turbo pumps (there is a fuel and an oxidizer turbo pump for each of the 4 engines) supply propellent to the engine combustion chamber. The turbo pump can drain an average swimming pool in a matter of seconds. It is amazing.
Holy crap! So it would take a half dozen hot corvettes at full throttle combined to pump fuel to one of the engines? That's a little mind boggling! Makes the electric fuel pump I installed on my old 5.7L jet boat seem more than minuscule.
I think the math would be more like SIXTY hot Corvettes at full throttle for each engine, or am I reading something wrong?

Please post us some photos…pretty please?

They are going to light the match under Artemis at 1am Wednesday they said.

Fox Nation is airing a program about the development of Kennedy Space Center. Not sure what day or time, but should be interesting.

Window opens at 1:04 am. You can get an extra hour of sleep!!

Our bus leaves for the space center at 8 pm, gonna be a long night...
Picking up the bus at the Cocoa Beach Hilton? Are you going to the press site or the Saturn visitors center? They are both great. If at the press site bring warm clothes and bug spray. You are going to want to wear long pants for sure. There is food at the Saturn Center but not at the press site unless something has changed. Look to your left, the launch control center, I sat at one of the propulsion consoles in that building for thirty Shuttle launches. It seems like yesterday. If I could advise to not focus on your camera but rather take it all in with your eyes and ears and body. There will be plenty of pictures from others.

That's awesome, went by the control center today. I have no idea of any details, just was told it is the closest anyone is allowed. Thanks for the advice!

Just behind the Press Site is where the Red Crews are staged. These are the people are readied to make a pad entry to fix things when the vehicle is loaded. Also are all of the post launch securing folks and hardware. On the roof of the Launch Control Center and roof of the engineering building behind you (if at the press site) will be a host of people like the president, senators, center director, NASA administrator, representatives, and foreign dignitaries. Pretty high falut'n.
