Hello fellow boaters,
I had the unfortunate luck of a large sea lion camping out on my swim step last week. No structural damage but left a big ugly brown stain which covers most of the swim deck. I tried scrubbing with soap and water which took some of the shine of the stain off but left most of it there. Tried the hull cleaner which is pretty toxic and a stiff scrub brush with zero effect. I'm going to use a power washer today and another dock mate suggested spray bleach. Any ideas or do's and dont's?? I have placed some 5 gal buckets filled with water on the swim step to deter another visit. I never thought it would happen to me. UGG!! Thanks, John

I’ve had some stubborn stains. Bird droppings, spray sunscreen, etc. sometimes the sun is the only thing that will bleach that stuff out.

Lol been there when lived in California. Had to use acid and re wax to get it to go away. Then 2x4’s with nails sticking out to keep those xxxkers off of it.

Thanks!! I ended up using clorox bleach diluted with water maybe 1/4 parts. Scrubbed with a stiff brush and the stains are gone. Rinsed with fresh water when finished. Worked really well. very pleased with the results. I was very careful not to track or splash the bleach on the interior carpet. I will keep 3 five gallon buckets filled with water on the swim deck to keep the buggers off.

We have seen this problem before on this site….. I don’t think he found a solution to keeping them off the platform…. Once they find it it’s like automatic no matter what you do

Your buckets will be floating/sunk they can flip them off with there nose like it is nothing.
