It looks like my parents 290 Amberjack may be sold, pending the survey on Tuesday. How would you recommend handling the paperwork and money? The boat is free and clear, there is no loan. It is a documented boat with the USCG.

Thanks,

Scott

Here's part of it. What's needed in regards to your state I don't know.
[h=3]WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I SELL MY DOCUMENTED VESSEL?[/h] When the sale is finalized you may complete a U.S. Coast Guard Bill of Sale (CG-1340) or complete the “Sale or Transfer of Vessel” section on the reverse of the Certificate of Documentation (CG-1270). Documentation forms, fee schedules, and instructions are available for downloading on this web site. If there is an outstanding mortgage, the mortgagee ( lender) should complete a Satisfaction of Mortgage. The vessel cannot be removed from documentation with an outstanding mortgage.

We've purchased a few boats from private parties in Wa and other than what's already been mentioned, for some reason, they all prefer cash or direct deposit. We were told that there's been a problem with forged bank draughts and certified checks. Make damn sure the money is in your hands or your account before you fill out the back of that registration card and hand it over. In Wa it's a pretty straight forward and simple process, hope it goes like that for you too.
