I purchased this boat about one month ago. I knew that it needed the basic spring stuff like fuel filter, tune up, hoses check etc. I have a great tech here in the Gig Harbor, wa area and he stated that everything looked really good. Traded in a 28 Bayliner Contessa. I noticed that the gas gauge starboard fuel tank moves some off of the peg but read empty. Tech checked the gauge in dash and he states it works. Sea Ray (Lake Union) stated they check the sending unit and it is working. Tech says the same. Ran out of gas docking in line for fuel. Beside feeling stupid is there a fix a amature can do or check. Can a person change out the sending unit without a lot of effort HEE-Hee or ideas. Out of the last 4 boats my wife loves this one and since that is half the battle I want to get this situation fixed????? 1988 Sea Ray DA twin 7.4s, fresh water cooled, etc. 982 hours

Welcome to CSR and contrats on your new 340 - nice boat!

A couple of years ago I had my gauge have the same issue. You may want to do a "search" for "sender" at the top right hand corner of the screen. There have been lots of posts on this subject. In my case, a quick check by touching the two sender wires together at the gas tank revealed that the gauge was just fine (when the wires were touched together the gauge quickly showed "full"). I replaced the old float type sensor with a "sonic" one that uses sound waves to determine the fluid level. No moving parts and very accurate.

Good luck with the search. That's one of CSR's best features. Whatever the issue, you can bet that someone else has already gone through it and documented a step by step solution.

OK, First here is the riot act!!!!

IF YOU FEEL INCLINED TO MESS AROUND WITH GASOLINE VAPOR ON YOUR BOAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE!!!

Now that we are past that... Here is where your sending units are!

Mid cabin under the cushion center line of the boat...

May have to feel for screws to access it, all you will see is a wedge shaped cover!

here's the sending units...

Jimmy gave you great advice to check the gauge first...

Now, Unless you are completly confident that you can change the senders yourself then I am going to tell you that a few bucks to a mechanic that knows what he is doing verses thousands of dollars in medical bills and loss of property.

Happy to have another classic owner here with us!

Jason, I just changed my sender on the port side. Checked it with a volt-ohm meter. $30 from amazon. Cheap fix

My senders are not there on my 06 340da. They are accessed through deck ports in the cockpit. Port is in the cabinet next to the mini-fridge, starboard is under the seat behind the drivers seat (which requires removal of the seat back of the couch).

Under my aft cabin bed is the fresh water tank.

that's because this was referring to the 80's era sundancers.
