Why is it that the boaters that have the terd cruisers, never clean, never any maintainence, always have the least issues?!?!?I was minding my own business, sanding an outdrive, watching a group of "dirt pirates" as i like to call them, uncovering there boats, testing systems and getting ready to splash. My blood pressure was rising, knowing they would just put in with last years water line still living on the sides and an outdrive that looks like something has been taking a bite of it occassionally.

Yet, here I am working my fingers to the bone!!!!
What's wrong with this picture????

Let them have fun in their POS boats! You and the rest of us get to show our pride of ownership! Feel good about your beauty!

we some how have one or two in our marina i think one dude lives aboard his 1970,s searay 24 ft all summer ,it didnt even run season before last because of an electrical problem.Wierd he was married and had kids that came to visit him on weekends.I belive he liked whiskey ,lots of whiskey, and worked for the power company full time .He said he is first in and last out every year but not this year.Perhaps his housekeeping culminated on him.

Update!!!

I ran into one of them today walking across the lot with a roll of wire, so it looked. He looked really pissed, I asked him what's wrong? He said my rope lights on my bow rail quit working....By the way I've been meaning to ask you if you mind if we put a chest freezer on the dock for our group to use for ice and food?

I walked away laughing hysterically...I must be getting punk'd..
Bow rail lights?!?!
A chest freezer?????

Who are these people???

Hey sounds like my dock neighbor is up visiting you. He talks about how my boat is broken all the time and brags how he just turns the key and does nothing. He tells everyone how I am always working on my boat and how Sea Ray's have problems. If you include cleaning, maintenance and doing projects on the boat - broken... He has the old school Christmas light bulbs on his rails and a dorm fridge on his flybridge.

What a "Dirt Pirate" on a typical "Terd Cruiser" !!!!:smt043These guys should just pool their dough and get a nice trailer in the woods and have keg parties!!!:lol::lol:

there ia a 400 Sedan Bridge at our our dock that one one has cleaned in 5 years. You should see this POS. Only has about 60 hours on it but it is trashed inside and out. They had to go inside last year to get the snakes, rats and mice out of the boat.

That’s why I like to trailer Old Yeller, so that I can give her a good wash down and waxing after each use. That and slip rental is highway robbery. BTW does anyone have any recommendations on what I should use to condition the wood inside the cabin? I noticed what looks like mold growing on the boor to the head. It blows my mind because I detailed her before I winterized her last fall.

A great resource for that kind of stuff is Glen Haige, America's Master Handyman. He's got a great searchable website with how-to articles. He's syndicated in newspapers all over the country and the same goes for his call-in radio talk show. He'll tell ya what the furniture repair pros use and how to do it as good as they do.

This reminds me how I never studied in College and always did better than my roommate who pulled all nighters... I think the dirt holds some boats together... I added fresh water connections to my mains, genny and AC last year, and as a result, I hydro0-locked my genny... Spent too much time and money rebuilding the genny and have not gotten it to run yet... So my desire to have my boat just right caused more damage than if I left it alone... Maybe the dirt pirates are on to something... Use it and abuse it, never clean it and it will give you less trouble...

I have the same theory with fat people that eat like crap and smoke. Seems they never have any issues. Yet, like POS boats and boaters, you never see any OLD fat smokers.

Patience my friend. Unless they are just hanging out at the dock, their lack of preventative maintenance will come back to haunt them. They'll be stranded out on the water or at the very least, have a boat that has not value or use way before its time.

When your boat never leaves the dock it's easy to say you never have any problems with it...and lack of cleaning never sunk a boat.
But, there's no escaping mechanical maintenance. It's pay me now, or PAY me later.

My money says your dock neighbor is opting for the PAY ME LATER $$ plan...

Hey, Its not just boats. This is a home I inspected yesterday. 15 years old and they did not do one thing since they moved in. Still selling for 1.4 million.
( This is only the back yard to protect the guilty:)

I had lunch the other day with a good friend who has property on our lake. He asked if we'd had the boat out yet & I explained that it isn't even on my radar yet as I've been extremely busy at work and also that I would need at least a weekend (if not longer) to get the boat cleaned up first. I couldn't get him to understand that there was no way in hell I could enjoy a day at the lake on a filthy (my assessment) boat.
