Anyone going to be down around Solomons (Zahnisers) for the weekend of the 4th? I am going to be down that way sun-wed. It would be great to meet up with some of you. So let me know if anyone is going to be around.

Nope. We'll be in OC at Sunset Marina

That's a nice trip around. Enjoy!

What marina are you in in Balt.? I go to the inner harbor a few times a year for sporting events. Just curious.

Anchorage. We were in Lighthouse Point before they condemned it. We'd love to return to LHP once they open it again but the cost of a slip if the same location we had prior to closing is 2x what it was. Their marketing plan (and my thoughts on it) is a discussion for an entirely different discussion thread, however. Going to a marina any further in (as a home port) is silly because it's 6 knots from Ft McHenry all the way in. Fine for a transient visit or a Harbor cruise, for a regular boater no one wants to spend 30 minutes putt putting just to get to the Fort, plus another 20 or so to get to the Bay!

Yeah, My wife and I were just disusing that exact comment. Almost an hour to get to the bay and then more time to get to where your destination is. Tough place to boat out of, not to mention the Fells point area at night.

Not going to get into a discussion about city life and politics, suffice it to say I live in Canton and love it. We can walk to our boat. That being said - I don't mind the jaunt out to the Bay. 5 minutes of no wake to Ft McHenry and I'm up on plane. At that point, all is well because I'm boating. I'm one of those guys that LIKE the ride so that "more time to get to where your destination is" that you speak of is "my time". This is probably the reason I like Herrington Harbor and Solomon's so much... I enjoy being on the water more than being at the dock. It's not cheap, but it is fun! But I would go nuts if I had a 30 minute no wake zone trip every time I went out and came back. Not fun! I guess I got spoiled. My first marina was White Rocks (a dump) in Rock Creek. As soon as you exited Rock Creek, you were almost in the Bay itself. Fantastic location for a boat (except for the marina, I mean, ha ha).

I could not agree more, I love running the boat and staying on anchor for long stents. To me that is boating at it's best.

I had friends that would rush to a marina, then rush to go out to lunch/dinner and walk around shopping etc. That wasn't for me and eventually we stopped hanging out.

Just got back from another long weekend down at Solomons. Man I love going down there, great run for the boat and when you get there it's the perfect place to dinghy around with lot's of places to go. It's especially nice to stay for free thanks to SH and the black card. 3hrs one way dock to dock makes it a real nice trip. Love running the boat like that. The only thing that would be better would to be out in the real salt off shore. But I'll take what I can get here in the brackish. Been a great season so far and there are more trips planned for the rest of the season through October.

Love Solomons, only challenge/negative I have is if you are at a marina further inland/east it's a looong walk to town. Tons of great marinas to select from though.

We stay at Spring Cove and I love the walk to town. Yes, it's about a mile, but it's always enjoyable. Or, Spring Cove has bikes that they can loan out. But usually we have our dinghy and just take it down to the tiki bar or lighthouse restaurant. It's also good for exploring up and down the creeks.

We love getting to Solomons as well. And we will be down there over Labor Day weekend.

We stayed at Zahnisers because it's free for SH members. But Spring Cove is nice as well. Zahnisers has all new floating docks now. That makes it so easy with Cody (Lab). But we dinghy everywhere. Never walked into town from the marina, even though they have bikes. They also have the restaurant La Vella that is under new management this year and has excellent food. Spring cove has a nicer pool, but the bar at the pool is pretty nice at Zahn's. It serves food from La Vella's. They also put me on the t-head floating dock with a real nice view, especially at night.
