St. Michaels Watermen's Appreciation Day

Mike, I'm trying to resist the temptation of stopping work on the boat to attend Wenches & Pirates Festival in Rock Hall and/or Waterman's Appreciation Day. I need to get this beast back in the water. That being said, if I pull off, I might trailer the dinghy over to Rock Hall, then swing down to St Mike's. I would like to at least make it to one of the events. Easiest is, to skip the dinghy trek and go to Waterman's event and catch the Docking contest as well!! The good news is, lots of choices around here ! Tim

Tim,

We've never been, and I'm excited about the docking contest. I've heard it's supposed to be pretty cool to watch. I'm working on the boat tomorrow, and taking it out on Monday (taking the day off) so that leaves Sunday for the Waterman's event. The admiral only cares about the crab feast!

Definitely lots of choices!

Mike, I haven't seen it at St Michaels before, but after seeing others, it's a hoot. As you know, most of these guys are always working in close quarters and doing it as efficiently as anybody could! It's fun to watch those that are " new to boating " observe some of the Bay Boats with verticle steering sticks.... :smt017.... They are true professionals at what they do, but they can screw up like the rest of us in those contests :smt021...! Tim

Wow, I wish I had kept my slip at Higgins and taken the boat up for the weekend.

The festival ended up being a great time. I really enjoyed the museum, silent auction (which we were outbid on everything), and of course the docking contest! One of the contestants was a 10 year old, and he did great, just a little slow.

It was crowded as expected, but the crabs were great, the beer was cold, and the longest lines were for the non crabs (hamburger and hot dog), and the autograph lines for the celebrities (Edgar Hansen and Nick Mavar from the Northwestern on Deadliest Catch, and 2 people from Swamp People).

We're definitely planning on going back next year.

Mike
