Had happened twice now... when I turn key, it does nothing... can here (can't think of name) piece spinning which is normal... but then engine never tries to turn over... once boat is started works perfect.

Battery, alternator, and has plenty gas...

If I out throttle button on shifter in like I was going to rev engine... then turn key on... the engine starts up after attempt or two... and then works fine starts up fine many times ... like I said issue has only occurred twice in past week.

Friend told me it is probably starter.... does it just need cleaned? Is that what you think it Is?

Thanks so much for your time !!

first off welcome to CSR......

is the sound you are hearing a 'click' when you turn the ignition key but the engine does not turn over?......if so this sounds like a typical symptom of a failing slave solenoid for the engine starter....when they start to go bad nothing happens when you turn the ignition key off and on a few times and then all of a sudden the engine turns over and starts.....then it is usually OK for the rest of the day....but eventually it will fail completely and you will not be able to start the engine....

the slave solenoid is fairly cheap and very easy to replace.....it is located on top of the engine....just follow the wire from the engine starter up to the solenoid....you can test the solenoid next time the engine fails to turn over by using a jumper wire (or screwdriver) between the two terminals of the solenoid when the ignition switch is in the 'run' position......if the engine starter engages and spins the engine when the jumper wire is connected the solenoid is bad....

I had a 215EC also and this was one of the first repairs I had to make....it is a very common problem....

good luck.....
