Stuffing Box leaks 1986 Sea Ray 300 350 mercruisers with V-drives

Has anyone ever had to adjust the packing nut on a leaking stuffing box on a sea ray 300? What did you had to do to get to it?:huh:

Stuffing boxes are supposed to leak 1 drop every 3-4 seconds or you burn up the flax packing. remove the fish boxes and crawl into the shaft area and try to work it with one hand.

Okay, I knew they should leak but mine dribble.

dribble is a bit much. If the packing has been destroyed by overtightening then it needs to be replaced .Packing nut only does so much.

Both of mine leak a drop every second. I was told by a local mechanic when I had my engines aligned earlier this year that was fine.
