Guess I’ll have to expand my palate, I’ve pretty much just settled in.

Glenmorangie. The only brown liquor I ever developed a taste for.

I've been to a few bourbon tasting events at buddy's houses over the past couple years. We bring a bottle, host usually has quite a few bottles, blind tasting and such. I tasted the 200, 300, 400, 500 plus dollar bottles, can't remember the names. I've always liked the 40 to 50 dollar ones, they taste better to me, I have no idea why. And most of the guys in the group are the same.

Four Roses, Bulliet, Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig, Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek and I'm sure I missed one, are my go to's and what I keep in stock at the house. I go back and forth between whiskeys and bourbons, tend to favor bourbons I think. If I'm mixing them with Coke or Ginger Ale, which is rare, I'll use Jim Beam. I have a bottle of Maker's Mark that I won in a tennis tournament last year, it's still unopened.

Just finished three bulliet old-fashioneds tonight, hopefully my grammar is okay on this reply.

If you like rye, you can't go wrong with WhistlePig. I'm more of a straight Kentucky bourbon fan. I am also a Beefeater's drinker, on the rocks with olives. I used to drink martini's and decided to eliminate the cheap wine.

Jim Beam is my mixing bourbon.

I have the same experience with wine. I have tasted $1,000+ bottles of wine and I have $15-75 bottles that I prefer and keep around the house. Bourbon, like wine, is only as good as it tastes to you.

For a very smooth, easy to drink Whiskey, try Tullamore Dew.

I had Blanton's Saturday night and man, it was a revelation. Just a different level of smooth. I also had Russell's and Elijah Craig as well. Good stuff. I am going to have to hunt down a couple bottles of Blanton's.

Keep in mind, when you list a manufacturer's name, they have multiple types; single barrel, small batch, etc. Pay attention to which one you're drinking so you can remember which one to get next time.

Russell's reserve single barrel and Elijah Craig small batch. My buddy has 97 bottles of high end bourbon at his house, including 4 bottles Blanton's. I need to go there more often.

An update to my earlier post--I have been turned on to margaritas mixed as above but with the addition of a few pieces of jalpeno mixed in with it to give it a bit of a bite.

    Try it, you'll like it.

So I’m going to the ABC store tomorrow and would like to try some new bourbons, I’ll consider all recommendations. Things to consider.

    1. Availability, if it’s not at the ABC store I’m not driving all over hells half acre.
    2. Price point, my regular Makers is $30 for 750ml
    3. I don’t mix, I use a rock or….these that one of my daughters gave me for Christmas. They work really well.
    I look forward to input!
    Jon
Forgot to mention, no Irish whiskey for me, I know I’ll get the eye rolls but every one I’ve tried taste like dirt. The Queen loves her Jamison Triple Distilled.

So here’s what I came home with. Couldn’t find Angels Envy Rye or Buffalo Trace. I’ve had Woodford Reserve (very good) so didn’t buy it. I will conduct a tasting tonight.
