Hi! I just purchased my first boat! 1999 Searay Sundeck 210. The boat did not come with a trailer so I'm looking to purchase a used trailer. My question is, what should I look for and how do I fit the trailer to the boat? Any help for this newbie is appreciated!

My 20' bowrider has about the same hull and came with a tandem axle Searay trailer built by Shoreland'r with drum brakes on one axle. The C of G of the boat must rest slightly forward of the trailer center such that you have about 200#s on the hitch. My trailer is 21' long although it might be listed as 19'. VIN sticker is starboard of prop location. I think 3500#s of boat requires 4 wheels but maneuvering is more difficult as the axles walk in lurches when making tight turns. I added another set of brakes as my tow vehicle is lighter. Discs require an additional electrical connection and I don't think they stop as well as drums although they are going to last longer in salt, as would a galvanized trailer. The boat rides on carpeted planks or "bunks" and requires more effort to haul than on the roller type. The winch is a Profile 2000 which would be hard to motorize although that would also require a battery box on the trailer. This trailer has vertical guides to align the boat and I'll just immerse it further before hauling out and get my feet wet. In a used trailer, look for no salt water use, careful maintenance, and full Bearing Buddies. Surge brakes on all wheels with fluid in master cylinder and levering back with a screwdriver should show a solid "pedal." Hinged tongue allows garaging.
