The admiral and I started photographing and video recording our cruises on lake Michigan and beyond. Last summer we traveled over 1200 miles on a single trip from Grand Haven to Put-In-Bay on lake Erie. After a bit of goading from her I honored her request and began editing our videos together. I'm not very good at it yet but I'm learning. We are trying to review ports up and down the coast. Once again I'm still learning. If I could get any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism it would be greatly appreciated.

The video quality is really nice! My take aways....

1. I get bored watching videos with just music in the background. Whether its actual audio or a voice-over, it doesn't matter. Tell me a story.
2. I'm not a fan of the still photos interspersed in videos. I admit that's petty.
3. I would like to hear about the places you visited. Any tricks or problems getting in and out of the marinas? Restaurants, brewerys?
4. Interaction/dialog between you and the Admiral would be good. It's always fun to see how other "chains of command" work.

In my opinion you've got a great foundation to build a nice cruising channel. Don't forget to add in the "aw shit" maintenance items. Even routine engine checks.

Wow! That is the kind of constructive criticism I was hoping for. Thanks Jay! I will see what I can do.

It would be good if you could add the places to get a good breakfast, lunch and dinner in each port. Also you skipped Leland, Charlevoix and Harbor Springs going north out of GH. Ludington too. Those are all great ports. More emphasis on the towns and less on going through the water unless the water is rough. Pix of the docks, etc. Any good storms with lightening would add interest. Video quality as others mentioned was nice.

I would definitely love to add babes in bikinis but....... I love she that shall not be named. I prefer to keep her happy...

Fun fact..... the trip up to Frankfort included an overnight stop in Ludington. Unfortunately, no video was recorded as I had laid down for a nap while the admiral had the helm. I managed to get myself a bit seasick when the lake became rough and spent a couple of hours at the helm emptying the contents of my stomach into a trash bin. I've only had that happen 3 times in my life. I didn't think ya'll wanted to see any of that.

In the first video we added Northport, Petoskey, Mackinaw City, Rodgers City, Presque Isle, Harrisville and Port Austin

The second video was Lexington, Saint Clair Shores, Detroit river and Put-in-bay

Im hoping that boat launch in another 6 weeks we can capture some of the other stuff Jay recommended.

Enjoyed your post and the videos, you're much more ambitious than myself. Others have provided some great suggestions. Spoken audio is hard and can quickly sink (pun intended) a decent video project. If you don't want to invest in a directional microphone try to limit recording voices in noisy locations, no engine, hvac, wind etc. Multimedia reporters sometimes use a closet to record there own voice overs.

Time to go purchase a lottery ticket, what are the chances that we're at Lexington on the same day last year? I was scanning your video from Lexington and our boat is down off to your port toward the fuel dock. We were coming from Put-in-Bay 10 days earlier. We had been north to Bayfield, Ont and crossed Lake Huron coming south on the Mich. side. Think we were in slip 4. Wow, the sea grass was really bad last year. See the attached pictures.

We really enjoyed the Lake Huron ports. We primarily boat on Lake Michigan but dang some of the ports were amazing. Port Sanilac was a bit crazy but overall our experience was hugely positive. The fireworks in Harrisville were something you would see in major cities. Lexington was quiet and relaxing. One of the other ports we were focused on was Saugatuck on the lake Michigan side. We are going to try and review a lot of Lake Michigan ports this summer. You can check out the attached link for Saugatuck last year. I'm trying to get better at video and editing but the learning curve is a bit steep. My kids have never really embraced the whole boating thing. We are hoping a few videos will convince them it isn't all "old people crap". LMAO
