2005 sundeck 240 5.0 mpi. looking at the vessel view mobile app or a link directly from my smartcraft gauge to a phone or tablet. I find my sc gauge difficult to read in the Florida sunshine and am hoping this will improve the readability of the smartcraft info. Any thoughts on this ?
Thanks , Pete

The VVM is a nice little piece of hardware, gives you engine data, keeps track of fuel burn, etc. it also gives you text for faults rather than error codes so it’s easier to track down problems on the water. Install takes less than 20 min. I would certainly recommend it.

Added it to my last boat with twin 8.1s. Loved it and worth every penny on the first alarm code. No more hunting for the gremlins.

What are you using for a display, phone , tablet. mfd ? Is it easily viewed in Bright sun ?

I have it and use my iPhone. It provides a subset of the available smartcraft engine data, but it is usable. The alarm codes in words are the main benefit.

I put a steelie mount on the right side of my dash and use my iPhone for the VesselView. It works fine.

I did set up an old iPhone as an iPod for music streaming so that I didn’t have to flip between VVM and Apple Music. Let’s others control the music as well.

Forget the mobile and buy my Vesselview 4 that’s on the classified forum! It also functions as a gateway providing Smartcraft data to your plotters!

Installed VV Mobile and like the interface and the data it provides. Much easier to navigate vs the stock SC5000. I use an IPAD most times, but also have the app on my phone, although it does not appear that you can view on both simultaneously. Bright sun will be a problem for most mobile devices. Unless you have a way to shade or tilt to view, it may not be the best option.

10" Andriod tablet from Costco. Built-in GPS. Turnkey, just download the app.
Generally, I'll engage the ignition. Turn on the app and connect the BT. Once I see the activity I start the engines and can see everything load up. You can set up three pages in any order you want. And drill down to specifics like MPG. Play with the tabs and dial in the mpg even tighter. Much much more.

2005 240SD with 350 MAG MPI motor.

I have looked and looked and looked some more for the connector with a purple dust cap or a red or yellow resister. Aigh, I can’t find it!

I did locate the blue cable that runs up to the helm and into the SC100. I assumed this might be a clue but damn, I cannot find anything upstream from it that looks remotely like the plug described in the installations instructions.

I would love any suggestions on how to find the connector so that I can install my vessel view.

I am wondering if I am missing a harness of some sort.

TIA,
John

Pete,
We’re you able to locate the connector plug? I have what sounds like same boat and motor, but cannot find the plug!

That cable is plugged in at the motor to the correct spot. That cable is SR cheaping out and installing a resistor data cable to supply data to the gauges. In order to keep the gauges and VVM you will need to make some changes.

Hi Pauldwagelock:

Could you point me to a reference to what is missing?

I’m thinking perhaps one of those junction boxes or some additional harness is missing - heck if I can find a drawing yet that has been helpful.

Thanks!
John

By chance did you see my picture posted a few lines up. All part numbers listed there. That might help you find the resistors.

I did and thank you. Alas, no luck.

I found the blue data cable that runs to the helm. It connects to what I thought would be a harness that would have the second terminated connector (resistor or dust cap). But it doesn’t. Instead the blue cable connects through a purple connector which quickly turns into a numerous individual wires.

I’m going to fabricate a way to climb further back and untangle the wires to see if I am missing it.

I’m starting to wonder if I am missing a key component - reinforced by paul*’s comment above.

I’m currently looking for a diagram and parts identification of a typical install to see if I can determine if and what I might be missing.
