Found that there is a problem with raw water coming in to the pump and that it may be from a corroded transom assembly where the hose attaches that brings water up from the drive, and that it may be a problematic repair so the idea of using a through hull pick up and strainer like those used in true inboards has been suggested.
My question is just what is the hull made of, and is there any wood used in the area that you would use a a through hull or sea cock?
I know this company has an issue of combining wood and partially sealing it or sealing it in a way that water can penetrate it etc so I am concerned about opening up an even larger can of worms than if I had to replace the transom assembly to allow the normal original intake system.
It does have one of the standard issue Lowrance depth finders so I am thinking it is solid fiberglass, but I wanted to check to be sure before I even consider cutting a hole through it.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
