Hi,

I'll admit right here at the front that I have put this in the 'ask the broker' section as well, but I'll ask you as an owner also (because you might not see this there).

I have a 2002 year 240DA that I bought about 15 months ago before moving to southern Florida and have determined that it is not the correct type of boat for where I'm at.

So, I'm wanting to sell the boat using a broker. I have a trailer for it and am happy to trailer it to a suitable broker location that isn't too far away. So, my question(s):

-Where should I trailer it to? I'm happy going as far as Atlanta or even eastern Tennessee if there is a compelling enough reason to do so. I would also be happy going to somewhere like Lake Martin in Alabama. My goal is the same as everyone else's.. to get max dollar after costs, storage fees, etc. So, if there is one lake or region that typically sells faster or for more money that is the type of information that I'd love to have. Do you have one that you favor?

I am wanting to put the boat on the market soon so it can be used by a happy family for this boating season. When should I plan to take the boat to the broker? [i.e, yesterday, March 1, April 1, May 1.. etc] Here in southern Florida you can boat year 'round but when does the season really heat up near whatever lake you like in the general 'southeast' area?

Once I have picked a general lake/location I can start doing research on brokers in the area but am hoping I can get some help in these preliminaries.

Thanks!

On that boat, I would list in Boattrader and facebook marketplace and see if you get some local interest. The trailer opens it up to a lot of people. Not enough money in it for a broker to do a whole lot.

I’ve started looking for a 40 to 44’. So far I can’t even get the brokers to return calls or send me the info I’ve been requesting. If it’s possible for you find a spot you like and sell it yourself.

Beware of scams and scammer, the will try very hard to get your boat. Good luck

In this day of communication, you’d think it would be easy to get you info.

My buddy shipped his I/O Sundeck to Florida a few years ago cannot get anyone to work on it due to the stern drive so he listed it had to drop the price a lot he had no interest in it and it was a really nice SLX
He used a broker but lost even more money

Well, join the club. When we got our place in SWFL we dragged a 24' Four Winns IO down there. Didn't take long to learn it wasn't the right boat for the area. Dragged it back to Texas and sold it locally through craigslist/FB/boattrader.

There are lot a ways to vet scammers. I'm happy to share what works for me. I've sold many motorcycles, cars and boats that way.

Regarding your boat, was it originally a freshwater boat? If so, how long has it been in Florida? If not long then I'd definitely get it back to freshwater to sell. Saltwater boats take a huge hit, especially in your style boat.

Also, a 22 year old 24' cruiser with an IO would probably be worth $30K'ish depending on condition?? How much time and effort are you willing to invest to make a couple more thousand dollars? I would think if you price it right and sell it locally yourself you'll still come out better after saving broker fees, transportation and storage.

Both glad and sad to see I’m not the only one struggling with io ownership in cape f**kwit. I’m seriously ready to just go all in as a sterndrive shop as it is clearly underserved here.
