Who has replaced the Kiss cooktop with something other than a cooktop?

I have a Kiss butane cooktop and the wife is scared to death of it.
So I am going to remove it (and sell later) but would like to put maybe a sunken tray with a butcher block where the cooktop was.
Has anyone done something like this?
Looking for pics and ideas.

I assume no generator since you have butane.
When you pull the stove I think it will be a pretty rough cut opening.
Trimming it would be some work.
But if you get a large thin cutting board you could place it on top and screw it from underneath.
