I recall reading a post saying zinc chromate was a poor choice for a primer. I'm repainting my drives (yet again) and trying to do it right. I am planning to sand, clean with alumiprep33, few coats of chromate, few coats of Primacon then finish with ablative antifouling.

Anyone have expereince using using zinc chromate?

My B3 was not in awful shape, but I wanted it to look as new as possible last spring. First of all, I picked the perfect day-very low humidity and 72*. Sanded the rough spots smooth, took a scotch-brite pad to the good painted areas, and then wiped it down with acetone. Masked off the areas that I did not want to get any paint. I applied 3 coats of zinc chromate-each within the specified time frame of 1-hour I believe. Then followed that with 4-5 coats of Merc Phantom Black-again, each within the 1-hour time frame. Did all of this in one day. It looks as good today as it did last year after it was done. Maybe I should have done the clear coat on top of the black, but I didn't.
